insuring a Z3

Post by Mugs »

Hi all,

I am after some advice on insuring my Z3....

when I bought it back in August I just swapped my insurance over from my second car (a focus that I was using for commuting to work) but it is running out in a couple of weeks.
I have had a renewal notice through the post and they want £420 / year comprehensive. (this policy is mirroring my no claims bonus on my main car but in my mind is way over the top)
my main car is an Impreza WRX that I pay only £308 / year comprehensive so £420 for a Z3 1.9 that is used for less than 3000 miles / year is a joke :head:
I am now looking for a classic car policy as the zed is 16 years old.
Has anyone got a classic policy and which company to do recommend?
I have seen a few advertising on the net but when I try to get an online quote they ask me how many NCB I am using? a classic car policy should not need me to use NCB as it used on my Impreza! :head:
any info would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance

Try Classic Line or RH Insurance, probably best to phone them rather than get an on-line quote. You are correct, no ncb with either on a classic policy.

Hi, I to am new to all this. I recently bought a 98 Z3 2.8 as a hobby so had to set up a new policy altogether. I live in the midlands and am paying £240 on a classic policy which I got from confused.com/classic. Good luck!

I use RH Classics 01277 206912 for my three Mustangs, £390 total for all three.

My ///M is with LV at the moment.

My renewal this year was £100 more than last, so I did a confused search and moved to General Accident. M44 1.9 came out at £304 for 10k miles, incl. business usage and protected no claims with hardtop and rollhoop retrofit declared - a saving of £190! They were very friendly and did everything online bar the mods, as the hardtop wasn't an option on the form. The list of possible mods was pretty comprehensive.

My classic is insured on a Cherished Car policy from Towergate - limited mileage of 3k miles, but includes 90 days in Europe and guaranteed valuation - not sure whether they will do a zed on this, but worth a try - main reason my zed is not on this kind of policy is because I need business usage (I don't have a fixed place of work).

Cheers R.

Just using my no claims, my current company (Swift) wanted £402 which is a hell of an increase from the £242 I paid them last year.

ok, I tried a quote using my no claims and it came at approx. £150 but I need my NCD on my Impreza so the £211 wasn't so bad on a classic policy. :D
