Northern BMW Festival - Tatton Park, Cheshire - 2nd Sep 2007

Post by Robert T »

Northern BMW Festival - Sunday 2nd September 2007 - Tatton Park, Cheshire
tattonpark.org.uk wrote:Now in it's 8th year, Tatton Park will play host to the largest gathering of BMWs and Porsches in the North of England. The attractions include concourse show and shine competition, specialist trade stands, auto-jumble, register displays including mega BMW M Power display, huge BMW raffle, cars for sale plus a whole host of BMW and Porsche race cars on display. There will also be a fairground to keep the children happy. The show brings together the best BMWs and Porsches from the north - if you own a 'looker' and want to show it off this is the show to do it.

10am - 4pm Adults £2, Children under 14 free (normal park entry charges apply)
More info on Tatton Park's site and the BMWCC site. There are some directions too (map).

We managed a good showing of zeds last year. Assuming the organization is the same this year, there was a section on the front row just for zeds.

There will be an optional partaking in the tradition northern delicacy of the bacon buttie at High Legh Garden Centre (map) at 10.15am (BB's served from 10.30am). Entry to the garden centre will be via the tradesman's entrance round the side (turn down first left after the main entrance, about 100 yards and on your left). After consumption of BB's and hot beverages, we will then descend on Tatton en mass, aiming to arrive there at about 11am. Those not partaking in BB's, please make your own way to Tatton and we'll see you there (the show starts at 10am).

You will need to pay your park entry fee (£4.20 per car) at the gate at Tatton, and then drive past the main car park by the hall, and follow the road round to the BMW Festival. There should then be another little kiosk where you pay your show entry fee (£2 per person) and collect your show'n'shine entry form. Park up on the area reserved for zeds.

A late lunch/early tea may be in order afterwards. Venue is still to be decided, but we have a choice of three pubs. The Whipping Stocks at Over Peover or either of The Swan With Two Nicks and Home, both at Little Bollington. I checked out the latter two today and they both serve food until after 8pm, I just need to phone with numbers tomorrow afternoon. At the time we are likely to be going it shouldn't be a problem to accommodate a dozen or so of us.

Please note, you do NOT need to be a BMWCC member in order to display your car - this is a much less formal occasion than Gaydon!

Anybody else fancy going?

Hi Robert
I'm pleased that you started this thread as it will hopefully give the organisers some indication of the Zed turn out. I'll be going along on the Saturday to help Jeff mark out the various areas for parking cars in groups so I'll be able to estimate the amount of space we require.
Cheers

Oooh, some takers already! :D

BBB- Bacon Butties sound like a very good idea - might have a job serving them out of my flat though! If only I lived in a big posh house!  There is a garden centre not far from Tatton that does them though! :D

MikeR- not heard from you for a while - hope all is okay. I did see your zed parked up on an office car park a few weeks ago! Are you there on Sunday as well? I'll try and keep this thread up to date for numbers.

Dave L2 - oooh, sounds exciting. Are you staying somewhere nearby? I might be up for a bit of a social. :D

trickyb - That's a shame. Haven't seen you since last years event! I'll take plenty of pics for you.

There are a number of good pubs within easy cruising distance - if anyone is interested in a meal afterwards, I will see if I can organize something. I will need some definite numbers if I am to book something, but if only a few of us want food, then it shouldn't be a problem to turn up on spec.

Hi Robert
Yes, I'll be there on the Sunday and if you can keep this thread going to establish numbers that would be great - perhaps a link should go on the centre "Events" section of the home page? not that I know how to do this.

Hi Rob
It would be great to join the throng but I'm back to work the next day after the summer hols, so i'm afraid its business before pleasure.

It would be just the place to take Silver after he's been repaired. If things change I'll be in touch. :)

Rob,

We're staying at Crowtrees Farm in Oakamore, Staffs. It's a little way away from Tatton but we have friends in Oakamore who we wanted to catch up with over the w/end. I don't know what we're doing on the Saturday yet, we could end up almost anywhere, but a meal Sunday evening sounds good.

Excellent Dave - there is quite a range of pubs in the area - all with easy access to the m'way for those who have a few miles to drive home.

Ics - it's a shame that it lands the day before the start of term, as it would have been nice to see you and Silver there. It's been a while since I last saw you.

Mods - is it possible to make this into an announcement so that it appears on the events listing on the homepage? We nearly got there with a sticky!

I drive past the Whippers on the way to the outlaws - it's been a while since I've eaten there!

I was thinking of The Swan With Two Nicks at Little Bollington as it's nearer for those heading back through Manc..... but I'm open to any suggestions.

Bacon butties I was thinking of High Legh garden centre.

Its excellent. Not completely alien to me.. I had a remapped 330ci (seen in gallery next to the Z) which I used without the DSC (Switched off completely). That was a big car though with less power.

The Z3M's a great car, the best I have owned up to now (touch wood). Its a tame pussycat in 5th at 30-40mph, but an absolute wild beast when let loose.

I had an Audi TT for 3 months before this, and although that was 4 years newer, the Z feels like the newer and more modern car.

Hi Jonathan - be great to see you along there. I took a TT round Oulton Park a while back - it was nice enough to drive, but I don't think I could ever form an attachment with it - the single-seater I drove after was more fun! :D

Bex - aw, noooo - that's a real shame - I'll be thinking of you when you are being force fed slimy things!

Mick - Work! On a Sunday! In the words of Nana Mouskouri NEVER on a Sunday! Hope you can manage to swing it, as it would be great to see you there.

I'll do a count up later and take a consensus on bacon butties and meal.

Right, I am beginning to formulate a cunning plan for bacon butties. The High Legh Garden Centre is a stones throw (map) from Tatton Park. Easy access from Knutsford and the South, but there is an annoying no right turn from the A556 onto the A50 if you are coming from the North - best access is to either go via Lymm and turn towards High Legh at the Jolly Thresher, or to go Lymm Services (M6) and A50 from there. You can also get there on the lanes if you turn (carefully!) at The Swan. It is very easy to get to Tatton from there.

Tatton itself is easy enough to find from the A556 - turn at either The Swan (Mereside Road) or Mere Golf and Country Club (A50), then make your way onto Ashley Road and go in using the Rostherne entrance, which is about opposite Rostherne Lane (map).

So far we have two suggestions for somewhere to eat afterwards - The Swan With Two Nicks in Little Bollington (map) and The Whipping Stocks at Over Peover (map). I'll need to check these out depending on numbers - I know the Swan With Two Nicks serve 12-6 on a Sunday. The Whipping Stocks seems to be a popular venue for various other motor clubs.

Count me in for the bacon butties and Tatton but not for the evening meal.

I presume we'll be aiming to get to High Legh for 10:30am when the they open? or are we having a pre-butty car park chat and oggle of our cars?

Just trying to sort my timings out. I was aiming to get to Tatton for about 11am, but as BBB points out, High Legh GC doesn't open until 10.30am, so it may be a little after 11am by the time we get to Tatton - depends how quick people scoff their butties! :D

I have an idea that the garden centre car park is gated off when it is closed, so I we should aim to meet at 10.30 in the garden centre car park. For anyone who arrives early, there is a car park to the village hall which is on the opposite side of the road to the garden centre, or a fairly quiet lane that runs round the back of the garden centre parallel to the A50, where it would be possible to wait until you can get in.

I will see if I can scout this out tomorrow and I will confirm when we can get in from and where would be a suitable place to wait.

Tatton is literally only a few mins drive from High Legh along the A50 towards Knutsford.

Cheers R.

Is there not a little chef, on the left just as you come off the M6 heading towards Mere?
Maybe not as convivial as the Garden Centre - but open much earlier?

Hi all. I have been to investigate the bacon butties this morning, and problem hopefully solved. They start serving hot food at High Legh from 10.30am and they should be able to cope with a dozen bacon butties without any probs. The car park gate is normally closed until 10.30am, but there is a side entrance which the staff use, which should be open a bit earlier, and we are welcome to wait in the car park until they open. :D

So, as you come off the A50, you turn into a side road and the entrance to the garden centre is on your left - if this gate is closed, take the next turning on the left and the side-entrance is about 100 yards down there, again on the left.

Both the garden centre and Tatton Park have nice big brown tourist signs, so they are easy enough to find.

Note that there is no turn from the A556 southbound onto the A50 (northbound is fine) - if you get that far, you can either take the A50 towards Knutsford and turn at Mere and come back the other way on the A50 and straight across at the lights, or carry on to the M6 roundabout and come back and bear left onto the A50.

Easier access is from the A56 Bowdon Roundabout, take the A56 towards Lymm and at Agden turn left at the crossroads in front of the Jolly Thresher (there us a big brown sign for the garden centre!). After a mile or so, at the end of this road bear left and then turn left onto the A50 and then immediately right before the garden centre.

I will aim to get there myself at about 10.15am. Last one in the queue for bacon butties is buying! :D

BBB - yes there is a Little Chef there, but you can have a full cooked breakfast at the GC and you won't be on your own!

Cheers R.

PS Yes I did have a bacon buttie, and it was damn good!

It was only your predicament regarding timing that promted me to mention the LC as an earlier alternative.

10:15 via the tradesmans it is - see y'all there.

No worries, BBB. It might be the LC for tea yet!

Excellent, Marc! :D

I've put details of the bacon buttie partaking in the initial post, so it's 10.15am at High Legh. We will meet up with those not partaking in BB's at the show, which actually starts at 10am, but as seemd to be the case for most people last year, we will be fashionably late. :D

Hi guys,

Just from the earlier post about the Whipping Stocks they server 12 til 3pm on Sunday - good honest pub grub..

I will be at the show hopefully with a very shiney car :o

I will be at High Leigh in the morning not too sure about a bacon butty but i may well be tempted.

Are we going in convey from the garden center? Shall be a nice sight with all the Zeds. Plus it will be my 1st time for doing anything like that...

Excellent Z4Si! Convoy is getting longer by the minute!

I will double check what time food is served until at the Swan With Two Nicks.

If only a few of us want food, and we are done at the show before they stop serving, then the Whippers will do me. :)

I'll see if I can order some sunshine whilst I'm at it.

Cheers R.

Rob,

Do we have a 'roped off' area for ZRoadster members as suggested earlier or are we just parking up anywhere? We'll be making our own way to Tatton and would rahter be parked up with the rest of you guys than 'Billy no mates'.

Hi Rob
Coming up from Essex, you deserve more than a roped off area!!!! Yes, I'll be going to Tatton Park on Saturday afternoon to help the club rope off areas for different cars. This is a joint event with Porsche Owners though we often occupy more space. If the layout is as previous years we will be on the front row of the road up to the marquee. I'm hoping to be able to make a guess on the number of Zed's we get (currently up to 9 but I reckon it will be more like 12 to 15). The National Trust and Chehire Council runs Tatton Park and they charge £4.20 to get in (what a strange amount!?). In the past the club have also levied a small charge to park up.
Hope this helps - see you Sunday.

Last time I was at Tatton was with 200 Smarts, was a fun day out!!

Looking Forward to it :D
