20 Sept: ZRoadster Visit to Herts Police HQ

Post by RobBruce »

I have arranged the possibility of a vist to Herts HQ to give people a proper insight into ANPR, Road Safety, Speed Enforcement and the general day to day stuff involved in policing.

The idea is to show people how these things actually work in real life, and to get the opportunity to have a look at a Traffic car and all it's equipment, have a go with the Laser speed guns, the breath-test equipment, etcetera. (Yes, including handcuffs ;) )

It would also include a tour of the Operations Room inc ANPR functions, a presentation by Driving School, and hopefully Road Crash Investigation.

The visit would take place on a Saturday morning for a couple of hours, so there would be plenty of time for lunch and a mini-cruise afterwards - should anyone be up for that. I'm also hoping to get an article done for BMWCC magazine and maybe one of the other car mags (ie BMWCar)

Obviously, places will be limited, so I need an idea of interest before I go ahead and organise it fully. It will probably be either 16 August or 20 September, 10am start at Herts Police HQ in Stanborough.

Anyone fancy this? Add your name if interested, and feel free to ask any (sensible) questions.

Cheers
Rob

Can't do 16th August unless it's later in the day, but 20th Sept is looking good.

Hi Rob

we're playing at Broastairs festival during that week in Aug, but I'm definitely up for the September date.

As this is now starting to gather steam, I can confirm the date will be 20 September.

It is likely to be limited to 20 places, so let please post any interest ASAP.

Also, if anyone fancies organising a mini-cruise after, please let me know.

I may well be up for the cruise & lunch afterwards... (but not the HQ)...

Is this an option?

I'm at Goodwood Revival on the Friday, and this would make an nice addition to the weekend!!

Plus it would be good to meet some members too!! :D

Hi,

Should have more details in the next few days when I get back to work. However, I think the room is booked, HQ and driving school are on board and there's interest from BMWCar magazine too - so should be good!

I haven't planned a cruise yet - I don't know if I'll be able to get off work early to run it so I probably won't be planning it - hence I asked for volunteers.

The Crooked Chimney pub isn't far away either - it's part of the Vintage Inns group which are fairly good for mainstream establishments.

Yes.......

I'm back at work tomorrow so may have some updates then.

Just a quick question - this visit is primarily about Casualty Reduction, ANPR, better driving and a general insight into The Plod. Would anyone also like a look around an ARV and/or Dog Unit?

Re the Cruise after........What's the finish time at the HQ ?

The first section of the 'Longest Day Run' finishes at Great Yeldham and runs for around 2 1/2 hours or could be adjusted to finish at M11/J8

LATEST UPDATE

I'm trying to confirm a time plan for the various visits/chats etc, depending on which units are available for us.

So far it looks like a 10am start at HQ - which is Stanborough, WGC. Likely to finish around 1300hrs at this rate.

I suggest a meet-up before hand so you can all arrive together. South Mimms services at J23 M25 is easy to find. Meeting there for 0900hrs gives a little room for lateness, and I should be able to meet you there.

It looks like BMWCar magazine will be attending too, so get the Meguiars out! :)

More details soon.

THIS IS NOW CANCELLED

Due to unforseen extreme stupidity I have to cancel this event. I had organised the tour, talks from Traffic and Driving School, booked a classroom and sorted out the press too. :shrug

However, suddenly the 'nanomanagement' have decided that I can't be released for even a couple of hours, and nor will they allow anyone else to fill in either.

So please accept my apologies for messing you about.

Rob

PS If anyone knows of a friendly brewery, I can think of some managers that need some organisational practice....... :head:

Shame. I was looking forward to....<ahem>....seeing things from the other side.... :D

So if I did 120 up the A1 past J7, do you think I'd get a personal invitation?

Let us know if you are able to reschedule.

It's true then, when they say it doesn't pay to be too good at your job
I'm really sorry for you Rob, it must feel like a slap in the face after all the effort you put into organising it?

Damn! I was really looking forward to learning some tips of the trade (driving ones obviously) :head:
