A little trip to Germany

Post by Desiro »

1596 trouble free miles, I think the car runs better now in fact after a good run.

£269-50 in fuel – some of it was the 100 ron stuff, but I didn’t notice any difference in performance, maybe I wasn’t trying hard enough.

I borrowed a tom-tom before we went which was a must for finding hotels in town. I will definitely buy one before next year.
One annoying thing about the tom-tom though is that it bleeps every time you go over 100 mph. “where the law allows”. I’m sure there must be an option to turn that off :?

Our itinerary:-

• Sheffield - Dover

• Norfolk line ferries to Dunkirk. I cannot recommend them enough Excellent food and service on a modern well kept ship.

• A day and overnight in Bruges.

• 2 days in Bad Durkheim for the Wurstmarkt (wine festival strangely). I would say it is similar to the Oktober fest in Munich except with wine.

• A day in Rothenburg ob der tauber (one of the prettiest villages in Germany)Via the burgstrasse ( castle road)
Outside the hotel in Rothenburg

• A day in Cochem ( on the way back now)
The drive down to the moselle before ariving in Cochem.

The morning we left Cochem

• A day in Ghent. The surprise of the holiday, I would definitely go back and only an hour from Dunkirk.
A little piccy of Ghent

The worst part of the trip was Dover to Sheffield on a Friday afternoon, 5 hours of heavy traffic.

Thats it :) Id better start cleaning the Zed

I've spent the d ay in Cochem which is a very "quaint" old town! Wasn't far from the Ring so went there for the day when it wasn't open.

I've been down the Mosel and visited Cochem - lovely place - good wine.
Then over to Boppard on the Rhine.
Rudisheim is another pretty village albeit touristy
Sapphire black/Imola red and black interior/ red roof/ S54 - the only RHD one made.

c_w sorry to disapoint you I'm sure you thought the thread would have included a trip to the ring. Next year I will attend a track day in the uk for sure.

It was a lovely trip, if not a little rushed and the Moselle is very beautiful.
Not sure I would recomend that particular route to anyone though.

Next year we will be working around the route Holland Harry did and staying in Europe for 2 weeks or so.

Hi Desiro, I envy that trip you made. Sounds like you had good fun. :)

The alloys on your car...straight from an S54 or did you have a refurb done on the silver S50 wheels? Your Boston Green ///M looks great and the alloys really suit it. :P

We're hoping to do the Moselle tour next year with the Z3-forum.

Thanks for the taster.

The best bit for me was driving down the Moselle so an excellent choice there wessex. If I did the trip again I would spend longer in that area.
I would be interested to see your planned route if you have got that far yet with the trip.

///M_aniac The wheels are the original S50 but I had them refurbed and painted Black Chrome, after much deliberation, at the wheel specialist in Leeds. They are not exactly S54 colour but I am very pleased with the result.
