The route has won the "Bart Seal of Approval", although it can't be that good because he's not going to be there for the actual run!
The run should start at 10:00 and will involve about 5 hours of driving and 2.5 hour of breaks at various places, leading to a finish time of about 17:30. However, since we will always be close to either the A1 or the M1, there should be no problems with peeling off slightly earlier if you need to!

Main post updated again and....
Could anyone who wants to attend this please PM me with the required details ASAP and the pub has also asked for menu selections a couple of days in advance, so please let me know those ASAP as well.
I don't think this run will be quite as manic as BOH I, but there will be a couple of places where the roads were quite technical and jolly good fun!
I have decided to limit the run to 20 people / 10 cars, so get in early if you want to get in!

Guys you are in for a treat
We had a little test run yesterday with Spokey and had great fun.
Some great roads in the Beds/Cambs area, a few familiar (and fav ones) and many new ones
Unfortunately, cant make it for the actual run itself, but those coming on the 29th, will certainly enjoy it!
Go on, sign up!

Apologies.
Hi Spokey.
Really sorry, but me n' the wife can't do this one. We'll be returning from a week in France on that day.
Perhaps it's a good thing that we're not doing this cruise.
Spokey's runs are very expensive in replacement underwear!
(Read that however you want.....Fnarr Fnarr.)
Hope you have a brill time.
Cheers!
Alfie.

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE ELSE JOIN THE RUN!!! I'm terrified that I'll have to stay in front of Bloke and Nemesis and not have an excuse for slowing down... (Besides, I'm slightly scared that Nemesis will want to eat me... ... want a long line of cars between me and her... )

I shouldn't worry Spokey. If you want to lose Giles, just let 'im go in front for a short stretch .spokey wrote: ... want a long line of cars between me and her...

OK, given the attendants and the lack of response I've had from English Heritage, this is moving away from a cruise and back into a run.
There will be a few "comfort breaks" and a jolly lunch (I hope!), but mostly it's going to be about the country lanes.
Please let me have your menu choices today, and any last minute additions or cancellations, please!

So that would be a breadvan (hey, at least the bread is still fresh when it arrives ), some family transport (visiting the rellies was never this much fun before), and a rare doorless doorstop (:!::?:sorry, 'twas the best I could think of). An 'interesting' collection indeed.spokey wrote:considering you drive a breadvan...

Hi Rob,
I'm sure it will be fine, but if you want to give me a food order in advance, I can still get it phoned through.

Thanks Spokey,
another GREAT RUN with fantastic food, good company and unexpected adult entertainment. Amanda still hasn't lost her colour
Hope it didn't get to wet for you all on that extra stage we got absolutely soaked on our way home. Yes I now I could have put the roof up, but I was enjoying my self to much to think about it.
Looking forward to the next one.

Marvellous drive, especially enjoyed the dogging discussion and very disappointed we missed Amanda's reddening.....!
Traditional line-up
Personalities
"Tim - This is why I don't need that TomTom rubbish!"
Spokey wanted the callbox for his front room, but it wouldn't fit in Nemesis' boot....
So contemporary - hard to believe it's as old as Jen
Dogging (in the field, left out of shot)
Looking good, just need to fix that darn SMG!
Any lower and we'd be grass cutting
ACS Zorst...sweet
"Look, I DON'T need TimTim or whatever it's called!"

Nice piccies Giles! Especially liked the ACS Zorst one.........
It's amazing what you learn on these cruises - They're not all about speed you know.
On the subject of which - I had heard about the pace of Spokey's runs, and the supposed 'bad driving' on similar such cruises. I have to say that today WAS fast. It was also very safe, and I was impressed by everyone's skills. It's obvious that we like to enjoy our cars as much as possible, but also take care in doing so. Bloody well done.
I must also add that at one point I was the 'rear gunner' (nothing to do with the dogging) and can confirm that the bunny is OK
Can't wait to see the rest of the piccies. Well done Spokey!
Rob

Re: Yeah baby
I think that the fact that you didn't see the bad driving up front was because you were so far back... ... no, I learnt my lesson at Gaydon, my car, lovely though she is, does have limits (or maybe I do ) and I need to keep well within them, which I definitely did on this run.RobBruce wrote:On the subject of which - I had heard about the pace of Spokey's runs, and the supposed 'bad driving' on similar such cruises. But thanks for the compliment, in so far as it might pertain to me I think it's nice to know that we can enjoy our cars responsibly ...
Excellent!RobBruce wrote:I must also add that at one point I was the 'rear gunner' (nothing to do with the dogging) and can confirm that the bunny is OK
Actually, I don't know if it's something to do with the rain, but I saw an awful lot of roadkill this time. And I know it wasn't us

Bunch of Hunts II: Let's go Dogging (redux)
Well, the run got off to a good start, with the Autoroute instructions to the starting point proving as useful as a hatful of dandruff.
Luckily, Tetchmeister found me on the motorway and followed me in, and Big Mr P didn't even read them, so we "only" lost Bloke and RobBruce on the way in. Giles called in earlier to say that he'd meet us at the lunch venue.
The weather also decided to play silly buggers, which meant that all the carefully chosen routes were entirely too greasy and slippery for all out bunnykilling. However, I think we got off to a reasonably quick start, or as quick as I felt happy with given the conditions.
The pre-lunch route went almost immediately into the bin when we wound up in a convoy with a post office van and a police car. I dived off at the first opportunity and then discovered that my seatcover pour le route, Lynn, had no idea of what a map is for or how to read it.
Luckily the first part of the trip was very much in my back garden, so I was able to improvise slightly better than what happened in the afternoon!
I think it was in this stage that we did the first of our river crossings, leading to howls of protest from Big Mr P, although they were definitely louder after the second ford.
Eventually, we rejoined the planned route and I discovered a really nice stretch of road that I'd not been able to test. Will definitely be going round there again! After this, things started going to plan again, and I almost thought we would have a pain free day .... HAH!!
I managed to get "lost" near Ireland again despite my best efforts. Still, at least this time I knew where to go, having been lost the same way about a dozen times...
I also missed a turn here and made everyone turn about in a tiny lane, only to discover that if we'd carried on we would have come out in the same place anyway!!!
As we started getting close to the lunch venue, I noticed that we somehow were over an hour ahead of schedule Luckily, on one of my scouting trips, I had come across (ahem!) something called the "Sharpenhoe Clappers". Unfortunately, I'd forgotten the name and also exactly how to get there... ... I then led the stout-hearted few on a merry chase to try and get to the hills....
Upon our arrival at the Clappers, I spotted an empty space where all the cars could stop next to each other. Opposite us was a metallic blue Rover 400, which didn't seem to have anyone in it.
As is the custom on such days, a group of men scarpered behind a bush to ... I don't know, whatever it is they do... ... while the ladies and I stood next to the Rover to take some pics of the Zs... Apparently it was at this point that I missed all the fun, as usual...
After the dogging session, we all scarpered off to the pub for lunch, where the fearsome landlady ("trouble", "small packages", anyone ) "welcomed" us. Still, the food was good, and the service an order of magnitude better than on BoH I. Our timing was immaculate, for we had scarcely sat down, when Giles, "Ms Photoshop" and Jen arrived. After much banter and good food, we tore ourselves away from the pub and set forth again!
The second half went much better, which was surprising as I was struggling to stay in front of Giles the whole time! The CSL was doing its best to eat me, I'm sure! One of the things I'll remember fondly from this one is the roar of the CSL coming behind me, I'm pretty sure Giles could easily see me grinning from ear to ear in the rear view mirror of the Z1 all the time!
Traffic was definitely more of a problem on this route than BoH I as well. Still, after the pub stop for a quick comfort break and fluid refresh, we got onto what I reckon was the "drivingest" part of the day, and I think everyone enjoyed it.
However, when we got to the endpoint for the official run, it was still only 4PM, and I was itching for some more action. Errrr.... let me rephrase that!
I scouted round the "Huntsmen" and found that only Big Mr P wanted to leave. So he roared off into the sunset, and I consulted my map for a quick impromptu run (hence all the sarky photos from Giles, honest! ) We went off for another blat around the countryside, only for Bloke to ignore my warning brake when I wanted to stop outside Wimpole farm and nearly run me off the road... Then he had the gall to complain about the lack of warning! Honestly, some people...
After the Wimpole photo shoot (how's your leg, Giles? ) there was one more little sprint and then we stopped just before the M11 to say our farewells and pootle off in our different directions.
I had an absolute blast, I really enjoyed the company and I had a great, great time! It was really nice to meet Rob (we still need to talk about that IAM assessment!) and great to hook up with some of the usual suspects again. I was absolutely exhausted afterwards, though, and I slept really well last night!
Thanks to everyone who joined and made that such a special drive I'm really looking forward to the next one!
I dived off at the first opportunity and then discovered that my seatcover pour le route, Lynn, had no idea of what a map is for or how to read it.

do you actually like driving at all or are cars to you just a manifestation of some sort of pathological mother complex ?

I'll PM you with some dates and we'll sort something out. Keep an eye out for Herts Blast II - Rob's Run Revisited (The early morning version).
In God We Trust - everyone else gets PNC'd.
