On a Sunday night in February 1963, BBC television broadcast a programme after the news about the cold spell that had smothered the country since late December, in what would become the worst winter of the 20th century.

I moved from London to the Midlands in 1984 and in 1987 we had a snow fall of the like I had never seen.
A Forty Foot Curtain sider Lorry, had a snow drift right up to the top of it.
I was 3 years old in 1963 so dont remember that London Cold Snap, although I did live through it .........
We are so not geared up in England for snow, I guess because we see so little of it overall compared to Rain.

Good programme. Just think, 13 years later we were unable to cope with drought/heat, and last year we were unable to cope with rain.
It would have been a real test of mental strength when the 2nd freeze came after the thaw.

Watched that programme, loved seeing the train ploughs, but also sad as shows how incompetent the rail service is today.
I think back then there was still an element of wartime spirit as it was still less than 20 years after the war and food rationing which today has largely dissapeared
