My old Truck

Post by Gazza »

My old 1956 Chevy truck is on Ebay again, when I owned it, it used to look like this....

Now it looks like this after a £9000 makeover

Presumably the mess all over the bodywork is deliberate?? Does the fashion involve fitting trendy luxuries like knackered, soft shocks and bald tyres

The the person that bought it is clearly Nuking Futs if they think they've "improved" it in any way!

Info in the ad is wrong, and stupidly so - why state expired road tax when it doesn't run out until October this year?

Power and engine size have just been mixed up - capacity is 5359cc - unless someone has installed a jet engine whilst the camera wasn't looking.

Oh, and it'll be MOT exempt, so technically it doesn't have an MOT expiry. And wait for it... 2 previous owners... my ****!

Cheers R.

I understand what they have tried but the only way to achieve the 'look' they were after would have been to clear coat the original paint/bodywork.. Rust and all....

It's all the rage currently over here too...I see "old VW hippie busses" with rust all over etc etc and V6 conversions in the engine bay..amongst the other rusty looking gems...not my taste, but very popular with the youngsters...

I think it's ok if it's genuine. Don't know if you've ever watched Fast N Loud, but they occasionally find a car that has 50 years of genuine 'patina', and they just clear-coat it to preserve it, then fix all the mechanical bits. But I just don't think you can replicate that well enough - the truck looks 'made' rather than 'evolved', mainly because that's exactly what it is, I guess.

Only my personal opinion, but I think it's been ruined now. Looked far better before.
I initially thought the pics must have been posted in the wrong order..
Good luck with the sale..

I saw a good candidate Z3 for it in King's Lynn last weekend. I didn't want to park mine too close in case whatever it had was contagious!

I think you have misunderstood, I used to own the truck in its original two tone bronze colour, I sold it and the chap ruined it to what you see today.

I am not the person selling the truck ;)

Ah yes Gazza, I did misunderstand then. I really think he's ruined it, such a shame, it's a great old vehicle. But then I guess it's the old thing about one man's meat being another man's poison etc.. But I think it's a pity.
