Pics from winter work on my M Roadster
I want to share some photos. Last winter I was fixing some cracked spotwelds in the boot. After that it was necessary to repaint inside the boot and underneath of boot. Ok, I did that. But now the rest of the undercarriage looks awful so I went on with the rest. Unfortunately I was so engaged so I forgotten to take pictures from the beggining, so this is only from the reassembling.
Many new parts was was purchased. And it cost quite a lot of money, but it was worth it all. Should I do it again? Oh yea. I has wash and wax it three times, spring, summer, and one last time in autumn before it was time for put it in for winter. Its a pain to keep it clean and shining but when i have finished it is a joy for my eyes and soul.

Just a photo after I polished the end pipes inside. I know, some fingerprints outside.
I put a new grilles of clearcoated alluminium in middle of the front and in the hole for brake wents, took a way that awfull licensplate holder. Maybe bad photo but M color looked so good.
All of the heat shield was pollished, and attached with new sheet metal nuts.
Missing the suspension to fueltank, it was up to refinishing.
Pollishing the exhaustsystem was a little tricky and took a long time, it is pollished all the way from the manifold. some day I maybe take of the manifold to for pollishing.
I glass blasted the diffhouse and the "end" or "gable" what it calls. They was then painted with irongrey metallic and allumininumsilver metallic and clearcoated.
Painted and mounted with a new rubber bushing.
All the chassi parts was painted in a special black chassi paint for trucks an clearcoated. All small parts in aluminnumsilvermet and clearoat.
My old brake discs was not up to the rest so I were looking in to internet for some new. my choices fell for Tarox, they have good recommendations and they look so good with both slits and holes. For rear discs I did not want they to be as good as the front so I skipped the slits and holes. Completed with Ferodo pads. Better to brake in a straight line then slip sideways.
My brake callipers and all small parts was glassblasted and painted with irongrey metallic and of course clearcoat. Just that clips that hold the callipers to brake carrier was alluminium silver met and clearcoated. Havent any pics for front axel but one can just see the right wishbone, pity the front axel with original x- brace underneath are looking really good.
New discs mounted.
Painted in between the ventilation. I think they look so good.
Here one can see a little more of front axel and anti-roll bar.
Just a close up. No rust here. Took the calipers apart and mounted new dustcovers, pistonsealings and new brakefluid.

That car looks like new! What was the reason for stripping the boot?

Thank you. Actually it was last winter I did this but havent shown it for someone before this year. So i am happy that you like it. I was in my workshop the entire winter, from october to mars nearly every day a week after work and in weekends . I have a very loving wife, so she let me be left alone in my the workshop without interruption. I have been working professional with cars in my youth, but now only for fun but I have retained my tools and machines.whiteminks wrote:Wow that looks fantastic!

Everything has been disassembled and then cleaned and sanded, loose parts and all under the car. Then painted with automotive finishing in estorilblau; irongrey, Alluminiumsilver and black chassi paint and then clearcoat over the paint.

I suspect that my dampers is not up to date. The car is a little soft. Maybe this can help, what do you think?

Thank you. I clean them using some car shampo, then it was tons of elbow grease and pollish in different gradient( is that the name when one is finer then the other)? and at last washed it with glass cleaner.

thank you for your comment. I have actually been one week i Norway. and have driven it for 500 km this summer, but also washed it and waxit 3 times underneath. And I dont drive on bad roads.

I am sorry for this fault, in sweden we dont count in km, we count in mil. 10 km = 1 mil. It was not 500 km, it was 5000 km total out of 2500 km in Norway.

Drivers and Polishers
Sorry to be a dissenting voice, but if you gave me the choice of spending hours in your immaculate workshop polishing the exhaust system or throwing my amazing car around in the snow on its winter tyres, it wouldn't take me long to make a decision.
I can understand others being thrilled by your incredible workmanship, but to me it looks like a pampered lapdog with a pink bow in its hair.

I'm not a fan of concours, but I appreciate the effort. I wouldn't want to be thinking about dirtying the car when I drove it how it should be driven.

Boanke, your workmanship is astoundingly good, and although I still want to drive rather than polish, I am envious of your skills, and particularly the amount of time you have available to pursue your goals.

My old clutch house has been replaced whit a new braided one.
I put a new pressurer regulator on for vanos. Here the old one besides the new.
And the new one in place. One can here a different in how the engine idle. Now the sound is a little bit smoother.

I go to Malmö very often and I find very strange, that in a country with people very concerned about traffic safety but why is it that most people i south Sweden almost never use their indicators when changing lanes, turning left og right, parking og doing whatever??? I absolutely hate ignorance like that

The garage is unfortunately my old one, my new garage is unfortunately 20 square m smaller. About people that not using their indicators I am . It must be stupidity, it is very annoy to wait in a roundabout for a car that is not given any indication to where he/she is going, one think straight forward but then they just turn right. with regard to your new vanos pressure regulator how did you set the pressure of the new one or did you not adjust it and fitted it straight out of the box so to speak. I am curious as it has been mentioned in the past this can effect the infamous vanos growl so what exactly have you noticed it has done to your ///M.

Hi Aceman, the pressureregulator was preadjusted out of the box. The different to before is not that great. but it idle a little bit smoother. Hi again, it was a long time since I updated my gallery. You know my delayed birthday present ? This is what was in the grey box. So here is some new photos on my lowering project, I hope you like them.
Here is the first front coilver installed it is only to put it in and fasten it on top.
The other side is up and ready.
Here you can see that there is a gag upp in the "strut" is it call that in english? I made two pluggs of a sponge.
At first I only had ordinary topmounts and the caster angle didnt come right. I called back to the shopp where I bought it and told them that it did not fit. Salesman was wery accommodating and sent me two 3D topmounts for no cost. I put them on and caster angle was fine. The new 3D topmounts in picture.
Here is some pretty good pictures like it was when it was all done.
This summer we did a trip to Italy and the Alps. When we had packed all our stuff rear wheel rubbed the edge on fender, so I had to adjust the ridehight. I think you can see a little differents in gap between wheel and fender.
Just to showw how it looks from behind.
I also put on a stubby aerial. As allways please feel free to comment.

Reincarnation of an old thread but wow what a car! Can anyone better that? Looks like the owner no longer faquaints the forum. Shame, would have been nice to see some up to date pics.

When I first saw this thread a few years ago it made a real impression on me. It was like watching one of those "nut & bolt" concours renovations. The car looks as if it had just come off the production line.

I must have missed this post, so glad its been brought to the front again. Nice to have a good workshop and tools to get stuck in......and a very understanding wife! A fantastic effect and beautiful looking motor, definitely a source of inspiration for when it gets a bit warmer
