My Z3M's Replacement
Afternoon all,
For anyone interested I thought i'd stick up a few photos of the new car, hopefully it will be better recieved than on z3mcoupe where the thread was shutdown
The car:

Many optional extras including the all important x50 pack (bigger turbos/intercoolers/more power etc.)
The car was bought from a PH forum member (who had just upgraded to a Nissan GTR black), it had covered 800 miles in the last year left in dry storage. The chap obviously has a similar OCD personality to myself, the paintwork has no dents/scratches at all. I counted a total of 4 stonechips on the entire car, many of the panels (bonnet/bumper/wings f&b) are all covered in venture shield clear film, its impressive stuff and i'd highly recommend looking into it for any perfectionists out there.
Anyway enough blabbing here are some pics, she is yet to see a proper clean due to work/sorting out the zed for sale

Its very much less refined than the BMW, weirdly it feels very small when in the driving seat but the car is quite a bit bigger than the zed. The power delivery is astonishing, its without a doubt the fastest car i've been in. I have to say for daily use the zed is noticably easier to use (which is one of the main reasons why i made the swap).
If people are interested I may carry on a progress thread on here, i'll wait and see!

Might join you in the new year..I'm busy rebuilding a 911 3.2 1997 at the moment...been at it for a couple of years now. Motor is all ready, just sourcing body parts and interior bits is slow and expensive too...similar colour - silver...but mine is looking a tad drab and will need a full respray etc before I do the final assembly...maybe this time next year.

Lovely car - simple, under-stated, functional classic lines. A car like that doesn’t need lots of bling and they age very well, like a fine wine.

Welcome to the club. Almost identical to mine. Wonderful car, but we couldn't bare to part with the Z3.

Fantastic car ! I'm keeping my Z3 for a couple of years, and will move onto a 997 911 Carrera 2, with the facelifted lights like yours, not sure I'll be able to stretch to a turbo though ! Had a 3.2 S Boxster for a while, but those stupid "couldn't afford a real Porsche" comments were ten-a-penny. Will keep a tab on this thread, I'm "Wel-Jel" to quote TOWIE.

Titan - I wanted something specifically for weekends and sunny days, the zed is too good at the day to day stuff!
C_w - I know i thought the same! perhaps i just need to get used to it but at the moment it takes alot more effort to drive. I am pretty sure the clutch accumulator needs replacing which doesnt help (heavy clutch!)

It's a DMS stage 2, exactly as per the link. Very very happy with the car. It also has GT3 6 pots, techart suspension, quickshifter & a few other bits. Goes well on track too and had a true speed trap 191 mph at Bruntingthorpe!

Anytime. Can't recommend the 6 pots enough after several trackdays including the Silverstone GP Arena (F1 circuit) with no issues at all. To be honest I've never been on a track day in my entire life!! I do hope to at some point in the future, perhaps some driving lessons would be money better spent first!

I am a life long Porsche fan mainly because the engineering heritage of the air cooled cars meant they were built without compromise or regard to production costs.
This ended when the 993 series was replaced with the first water cooled engined 996. This model has suffered serious devaluation, much like the Z3 Z4 and has a reputation for engine problems that can be catastrophic.
I am happy to say the exception is the turbo (andGT3) which does not share the same engine as the cooking 996 and is renowned for its strength and reliability. The turbo also holds its money pretty well and, set up correctly, is an amazing drive.
I recently sold my 993 and moved to the 3.0 litre Z3 which I love but it's no Porsche. Unless you have owned one it's hard to describe the driving sensation. I am sure you will love the 996 Turbo .....just be careful in the wet !!

Thanks Gaz/Kevin, to be fair the M seems more of a handful in the wet but I imagine the limits of the porsche far outweigh my own! (as did the M)

My first trackday in the turbo was at the Stowe circuit at SIlverstone and all I can say is actually, IMHO, in the wet/greasy/snow, they're just sensational. I couldn't believe just how safe/secure and grippy the car remained. It monstered an M6 that was there, the PSM is very well judged and yes, you still know where the engine is! Trust me, in the dry, the limits on good tyres (Pilot SuperSport on my road wheels and Yoko Avan AD08's on my mean black track day alloys) is just astonishing.
Like you say, compared to a Z3 or MZ3, it's in another league, that of the Supercar!

I had a coupe and a cabriolet and really enjoyed them both, taken to the track a few times but not really my thing- mind you I always left them as standard apart from a geo check...
The cars are very suseptable to geometry changes and the understeer can be tweaked out of them quite nicely before ->
Just back from the Classic car show at the NEC and some very nice Pork on show this weekend..
At least it gives me a reason to post these
and a final one to show you how a Porsche should look, unlike the garage queens
I'll tell you it took some hard work to get it looking that good

Spooky place to visit as it really does feel that time has stood still.
Whilst I appreciate the refurbishment they are doing I also feel it's sort of removing its historic feel, a hard balancing act I guess.
I was supposed to visit there again earlier this year but the new road/autoroute caught me and my sat-nav out.
I'm looking at doing another Champagne run for the forum, so maybe a chance next year.
Other photos were IOM and the Vosges mountains.

I'd be interested in this as well, always fancied doing a proper road trip!
Well this weekend I finally had a chance to give the porsche its 'proper' clean.
Breakdown of stages:
- Rinse
- AG Shampoo including door shuts, engine bay and boot surrounds
- Rinse
- Clay (Dodo juice bar/lube)
- Rinse
- Polish (AG SRP)
- Wax (Collinite 476)
- Tyre Dressing including all plastics (wiper surround, boot plastics, Wingmirror surrounds, bumper vents, engine bay airbox etc..)
- Hoover interior, interior shine plastics and leather care
- AG Glass polish (inside and out), also used on headlights/taillights
- Polish exhaust tips (Autosol)
- Poorboys wheel wax on rims
Now i have carried out the bonding clean I managed to find a pin dent on the roof and a very minor crease on the passenger door, otherwise the paint is in excellent condition
It also appears my coolant is just below min (due to recently replaced radiator - before sale), brake fluid is due a change and the pentosin reservoir is also reading low, I suspect this is due to a failing clutch accumulator. Plenty to do over xmas then!
Tucked away ready for the PH End of year sunday service at Goodwood

Porsche looks good. Best advice I can give is to regularly check and clean out the 3 front radiators. The S looks lovely (love the CCB's!) fingers crossed I do bond with her! For me the zed will be hard to follow but at the moment the porsche is fulfilling its requirement well!

Cheers guys, I plan on keepin her as she is for now..large loan to pay off before any tweaking goes on!
