do you actually like driving at all or are cars to you just a manifestation of some sort of pathological mother complex ?
Dear Mr Bruce,RobBruce wrote:Could we group routes into "Regions", such as SouthEast, Midlands, NorthWest etc? There's probably too much work for the Mods if we did it by Counties, and some routes will probably cross borders............

I think you have missed the point....BimBeema wrote:errrmm! I can't really see the point if I was being honest! but thats my opinion! what's the point in discussing the stretch of this motorway or A road or whatever! might aswell watch the paint dry! or am I missing the point/purpose of this section?
Fosse way and Fish Hill get my vote..

Well, the idea is that if you drive a stretch of road that's really good fun, you will tell us all about it. The way you do it is to submit to a moderator (via PM) something like the Fish Hill route I outlined. The moderator will then whip it into shape and post it in this forum for discussion.BimBeema wrote:errrmm! I only posted Fish Hill as an example to show the sections of the route. A more realistic route would be something like Ullapool / Smoo Caves / Lairg / Ullapool...

Re: Maps
I grabbed a snapshot from Autoroute 2004. You MIGHT be able to achieve the same effect using Google maps. Click here for an example. However, Google maps isn't as easy to hardwire waypoints into.icarus wrote:Sorry I forgot to ask where you got the map form?

Missed by a country mile old bean! Bike magazines do whole supplements on 'Best Biking Roads', so this is a kind of 'Best Z-ing Roads', as recommended by fellow Zers!
In God We Trust - everyone else gets PNC'd.

Found a lap week if spokey can do his thing with it
Start from Abington services on the M74 , Cross over the Motorway and go north on the B7078(old A74) for a few miles and turn left onto the B740 towards Sanquhar, not a straigt bit on it . Road ends at the A76 , turn right and go through Sanquhar. Nice open road for a couple of miles then look out for the left turn onto the B797 to Wanlockhead and Leadhills . Now the road just get bonkers , As my mate said last week "I have been all over Europe and this will stand up to any of them " .
If you fancy a stop try the Hopetoun Hotel in Leadhill the Highest Hotel in Scotland , Decent pub food and coal fire.
Then just when you thought it could not get any better drive the rest of the B797 to Abington, it is a joy .
I have lived in South Lanarkshire since 1990 and I only found these roads last week by looking at a road map and spotting the twisty yellow line.
Honestly some of the best driving I have ever found but be carefull the edges of the roads are a bit indestinct and there were a few large stones lying in the middle of the lane .
Enjoy and be safe

I have three articles (ex-BMWCC mag) on the best European passes in France, Italy, and Switzerland, which may be of interest - they are perhaps too long to be included here, but if anyone emails me at ozimandius@wanadoo.fr I'll send a copy.
Length of Articles
Hi Spokey,
I checked and found that my articles on European passes are about 1200 words long - would it be OK to add these, peraps with a couple of pics each?
