A701 Broughton to Moffat

Post by spokey »

Submitted by: muppet

How I found it: TBA

Useful tips: Great road ending with a tea room where even the jam is homemade. Also known as the "beeftub road" as it passes the Devils Beef tub, a huge tub formed by three mountains round it, which gives you a great reason not to go off the road there......fall to almost certain death!!!

Where it is: Scottish Borders near the A74(M)

Estimated distance: 23 miles

do you actually like driving at all or are cars to you just a manifestation of some sort of pathological mother complex ?

If you drive this road from Moffat to Edinburgh, in either direction, beware that Broughton has a 30mph speed restriction which is very badly signed, and there are no repeater signs because there are street lights. It's a favourite trap for speed cops. I know, I once got caught there.

Excellent detour and a stop for a snack at the cafe at Broughton tops it off. When we stopped there last Saturday there was a mix of bikers and locals having a snack. The home cooked food is top notch.Cheers Muppet.
