Z1 in Carfest South Auction - 29th August

Post by andyhallas »

Hello all,

Thought I'd let you know ahead of it being advertised.

My car shall be up for sale in the CCA Auction at Carfest on 29th August.

It has been an extremely hard decision for me to put my car up for sale but the reality is that I have had such little use from the car for the last couple of years I feel it is unfair to keep it locked away.

As soon as there is a link I shall let you know.

Cheers,

Andy

Andy - sorry to hear this mate.

A word from the semi-wise though. I have sold a number of cars over the years that I now kick myself for letting go. There is no problem keeping the Z1 locked up. It won't deteriorate and is now going up in value so it would seem. Unless you need the money, I'd hang on and enjoy it when you can. It will get progressively more difficult to get back into one......

I bought my Sport Evo for £10K and sold it for £16K. I thought I'd done pretty well. Now they are up around the £100K.........................

Your decision Andy, but give it plenty of thought.

We'll miss you
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

Here's the listing:

Thanks for your messages Sam & Jamal - I shall miss being part of such a special club (although I hope I won't be shunned completely!).

I hear what you are saying Sam but whilst I don't particularly need the money, I do need the space. A major negative of living near Oxford is that you don't find many small houses with big garages attached.

I sincerely hope that I am kicking myself in a few years when you all have cars worth 6 figure sums.

Wow that's one very comprehensive listing! I have had a variety of cars over the years of which when I see one available for sale I kick myself. When I was a lad I changed my cars more than my underpants! Having owned what are deemed now as rare or very rare. Ford capri 3.0 sport and 3.0 ghia. Ford cortina mk4 2.3 ghia x. Not seen one of those in 25 years! Be 100% certain it's the right thing to do, if so all the best with your sale.

Any idea when the prices sold will be available?

I'm interested to know what the M Roadster went for.

It hasn't happened yet, Pingu. CarFest South is not for another 4 weeks. It was CarFest North this weekend.

Hello all,

My car sold at auction yesterday for £21,200.

I have left a note for the new owner where, amongst other things, I strongly urge them to join this site. I hope we shall hear from them soon.

All the best,

Andy

If andys price above is to go by the prices on the website are inclusive of the 10% buyers premium therefore the S50 sold for £10,000 and the S54 sold for £8,800

Could have bought these two for the asking prices of some dealers for one, and still had change.
At least these sold, and are not still on a listing somewhere.

At £9K you could have a new vanos, and £4k respray and still be quids in, regardless of how "perfect" the others may be advertised as.

Z3 1.9 Sport Progress Journal (Wifey's)

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Totally agree, I wonder if the location had something to do with it i.e. in the middle of a festival?

Hi Andy,

I hope you got what you were hoping for, but out of curiosity why did you opt down the auction route, as opposed to a fixed price sale?

Hi Jamal,

Selling price was at the bottom end of what I hoped but I'm not unhappy with the result.

I don't particularly like selling cars privately as I don't wish to be tied to being home to show people cars and I know with the Z I would have got a lot of tyre kickers and tourists. I was originally looking to sell the car through Uber GT (who purchased my Alpina) - they would have marketed the car and taken a cut.

However, the Carfest auction sort of fell into my lap and the chap I spoke to at Classic Car Auctions persuaded me it was a good way to go. In the end, I've achieved a quicker sale than I might have expected and realised close to the price I might have got selling through Uber. I probably could have got a few thousand pounds more in my pocket but for me it wouldn't be worth the aggravation.

Already started looking for things to fill the garage!

Cheers,

Andy

Really sorry to lose you, I hope we'll see you again anyway.

And, thank you for all your help - I wouldn't have even considered going on the Technical Day (which was fantastic) without your encouragement.

Please do let us know what gets put in the garage
