Finally got around to replacing the extremely brittle front wheel arch liners which had lost flexibility and had split, especially the nearside.
The parts were supplied and fitted by BMW dealer Specialist Cars, Tring who, rather graciously, stood by their original quotation for fitting both liners. Seems it took considerably longer than they anticipated and probably wasn't helped by the need to cut out the holes for the suspension struts in the new parts.
The rear liners are next on the agenda, as and when they begin to break up. So far so good.

Re: Wheel arch liners
Probably the guy fitting them hadn't done it before, seems funny that he had to cut the liner to make it fit more so with a OEM part?

Hi Tony,
Glad my info. on arch liners was correct. The rear ones are far more straightforward!

The quote of 45 minutes labour for each side is probably ok if you are familiar with the job and the oem parts fit without modification.
£380 for two pieces of curved plastic which then need to be cut and drilled using the old (damaged) liner as a pattern didn't help the process. Plus you need to tuck the liner in between the side panel and the under tray, the infamous three layer bolt hole which never lines up and the fastener is seemingly too short.

Re: Wheel arch liners
Were these brand new factory liners that didn't come with proper holes in them?
It seems the exhaust side (right side) liner on my car is pretty well trashed. Left side, intake side, seems fine. Guessing the heat has ruined it.
I would not be surprised if proper installation required dropping a strut, but surprising that the factory supplied part is in a raw form? Unfinished?

Baby deliveries by day, baby deliveries by night, Euro motors in between.

Hi xyobgyn,
Previous info. from TJS is correct. The front arch liners do not have holes for the front struts! One has to slice the top off a blank platform, at the appropriate height, in order to fit! The other fixing holes are all present.
I agree it seems strange as my understanding is that the chassis was never changed.
