Spare part required.

Post by TJS »

This is a bit of a long shot, but ...

Anyone have a spare plastic oval access cover which fits underneath the stem of an off side wing mirror ? BMW do not list the individual part, but are happy to sell a complete new mirror. If I drive the car solo it is nearly always with drivers door glass down, passenger side up to minimise buffeting. With both windows down the missing offside cover makes a whistling noise, offside glass up the whistle disappears. A temporary fix is to cover the aperture with black tape, alternatively a small piece of plastic card (my wife credit card for example) cut to shape painted black and held in place with a small dab of Sams favourite glue will suffice.

I think, not certain, but I saw a black oval/oblong plastic cover in my cache last year....they have been NLA for years those things, I wonder if they were used on any other car?

My mirror keeps coming loose, locktite a good idea?

Hi,

I also have a missing plastic cap on one of my mirrors, and it's floppy like Jets!
Not sure thread lock works. I have used it once but the vibration has defeated it.
Just got used to tightening the nut regularly. Nervous about punching the thread and nut to lock as the whole mirror structure and mounting are fairly fragile.
