How many miles per tank
How many miles per tank
Ok I would love to know how many miles you all get per full tank, mine is 1.9 and I get about 230 with a full tank! What about the rest of you? Most of my miles are to work, on B roads averaging 30 mph and at the weekend I do about 60 miles on A roads at the limit

2.8 and I get about 180 miles per tank. but that about 14 miles a day at an average of 14mph with plenty of throttle once warm... hmmm... it looks a lot worse when it's written down.
Meh, It's only money and the environment. I can make more of one and can stick my fingers in my ears and go LA la la la la to the other.

1.9 and only 230 miles on a tank!!
Mines a 1.9 8v. I do about 620 miles a week, mostly motorway, but still only averge about 45 miles/hour (stop/start M1 M25). I get 360 miles on a tank. I guess i'm doing pretty well. Engine is standard except for improved air filtering/smoothing.
Does any one find the fuel consumption differs depending on whether you have the softtop up/down or the hardtop on?

3.0 Z3, fuel light usually comes on after 260 - 280 miles or so. I haven't tried getting the tank REALLY low to see how many miles I can squeeze out of one tank, not worth the risk!
My driving is typically a combination of 20 mile 85mph-ish runs to & from work on the motorway, and a bit of pootling around S. Manchester.

About 260-270 miles in a 1.9 16v when commuting - a mixture of A-road 70mph and B-road/urban 30mph stop/start. I do try not to let the fuel light go on as I have no idea of what's left at that point
I'm guessing that roof up will cause less drag than roof off, but driving style (i.e. weight of right foot!) will be a much bigger factor...

Well I can't say I've ever drained the tank, but I get somewhere around 220 miles in my 1.9 off 3/4 tank of fuel. Thats with quite a lot of short runs and town driving - only gets to stretch its legs at weekends.
I can't testify to the accuracy, but the odometer showed I'd used 1331.8 litres since last service in 8134 miles, which by my reckoning is an average of 28.7 mpg.
I do know that the needle heads downwards much more rapidly the more enthusiastically you drive!
EDIT: Must have been drunk when I worked this out - it is 28.7 mpg NOT 45.5 mpg!!! I think I coverted the milage to gallons as though it were litres - doh!

I get 180 to 210 before the light comes on. Thats doing 10 - 20 mile journeys on open roads and motorways, driving enthusiastically, as they say.
I had an RX8 last year and once got 120 miles from a tank thrashing it down country lanes! Beemer is more fun to drive although the rex did sound good at 9500rpm .

200 per tank on my M then I'm hunting for a service station. With V max I appear to be getting about 30 miles per tank more - weird or anyone else getting this.

1998, 2.8 manual roadster. Nearly all my driving is stop start town stuff with the trip computer telling me:- average speed is 23mph (why the fork did I bother buying a 2.8!!) average fuel consumption is 30.8mpg! 240-250 miles to red light.
Which is pretty good I reckon, must be the low wind resistance due to 'natty's wax'

My 3 litre averages 24mpg, almost all town driving - about 240 to the tank I nevr let it get much below a quarter tank as I don't want to dredge up crap from the bottom of the tank ( might be a myth but why chance it )
Incidentally I think 24mpg for a 3 litre is excellent, I only get 18 from my old saab turbo.

I can't say I've ever put a full tank in, as I never wait for the rent light to come on. Filling up from about 1/4 full is about £25-£30, so a full tank would probably be about £40. Also it depends on what you run it on - mine usually only gets 95 RON - but I just put two tanks of V-Power in and am now on a tank of Sainsbury's Super - the V-Power was about another £1.50 on the bill, the Sainsbury's about 60p. IRRC the tank capacity on a Z3 is 52 litres - which is pretty small.

I seem to manage to fill my 1.9 for around the £34.00 Mark £38 IF really empty ,V-Power all the time.
For that I get roughly 280miles BUT I have to say that is more foot down than most poeple would drive on here, IF I actually drove it sensible then maybe 300miles.

God gave me Taste, BMW made the Z3. It's not a girls car, It's a Mans car in Drag !!
paulio - you need an engine which can take advantage of the higher octane fuel in order for it to make any difference - the Z3 engines have anti-knock sensor that allows the engine management to adapt to the new fuel. It definitely makes my 1.9 feel a bit more responsive, but I'm not sure it is worth an extra £1.50 a tank - however the ///M cars really do run better on it.

I didn't notice much with Optimax either... but with V-Power its a completely different car smoother, more responsive acceleration and more economical toopaulio81 wrote:as for v-power? i dont know whether its worth it. the old optimax i never noticed a difference in extended use before.
I have found you have to shop around for the best price though, and not all Shell garages sell it yet, at the nearest garages that sell it costs range from 91.9p to 97.9p per litre.
The Little Red Roadster
www.petrolprices.com indicates that ordinary unleaded is as low as 83.9p/litre if you can find it. Super unleaded is 85.9p/litre - V-Power will be a few pence more - locally my cheapest is 90.9p/litre at Shell Wilmslow. It's a little fiddly to find the cheapest V-Power as you have to look for the cheapest Shell station that sells super unleaded.

Just got an Asda credit card and I can now get normal unleaded for 81.9p/ltr (2p off) and home shopping delivered free .Robert T wrote:www.petrolprices.com indicates that ordinary unleaded is as low as 83.9p/litre if you can find it. I use Sainsbury's for super unleaded (86.9p/ltr) + Nectar points, but need to be passing there to make it worthwhile.
I used to get 320 - 350 out of a 55 litre tank in the Z3.
I now get about the same out of a 63 litre tank in the 330
Pingu
Travelling to and from Donington yesterday I used 3/4 of a tank before refuel on the way home and the odometer was showing 210 miles, so approx 280 miles per tank using super unleaded.

Re: hi
Mine is not only a weekend toy, but when I fill it/her/him up, I usually reset the BC also, therefore I kindda remember the digits...321bhp wrote:miles per gallon,
dont know,i just drive it and fill it up,as its a weekend sort of car,
I also calculated the REAL consumption a few times and the BC is wrong for about 0,3l...I have been told that this can easily be calibrated, but hey...who cares - really?

We did Manchester to Cornwall (Lands End end, if you know what i mean), pottered round for 2 days and came home on 1.5 tanks! Not being Mr and Mrs Slow, either.
Compare that to my Zed... not sure i could afford it if i did more than 8000 miles a year.
I spent most of my money on whisky, women and Z3's. The rest I just wasted.

I use the Z as my main car so it does the work run every day....this is usually stop start driving around town.....at the weekend I use it for going to football, golf and cricket so it gets fair use.....
I get about 230miles to the tank before I fill up.....i'm not sure how much more I have in the tank as I haven't risked going any closer to the line!!
