Opening a Z3 Bootlid without the key or Central locking.
Folks,
There have been a number of people who have had problems with the boot release mechanism on their Z3s. This is normally caused by the plastic retaining clip breaking and the actuating rod falling out of the release lever on the latch.
This then means that neither the key nor the central locking will open the boot.
This happened to me and more by luck than design I found a fairly simple way to open the boot from the outside.
I have had quite a few requests by PM for the method which I have passed on and in all cases so far it has enabled the owner to get the boot open.
My questions is should I publish this method to help future owners or is this an unwise thing to post up to the world at large?
Cheers
Jon

BMW Bootlock
Hello,
I have exactly the problem as described. I live in Bermuda where there is no dealership to help with this problem and the local garage is about to knock through the lock to gain access. I would dearly like to have the information you have passed on.
My email address is gsutherland@warwickacad.bm
Thanks in anticipation!!

Just incase its the first sign of it failing completely could you PM me. Thanks
If you managed to open it with the key then you have a different problem.
Check all the rods are properly connected and if they are then you have an electrical or solenoid problem.
