Alternative to useless dim sidelights
Alternative to useless dim sidelights
I have always found that the side lights on my face-lift Z3 are about as much use as an ash tray on a motorbike. In the twilight mornings and evenings I worry that people cannot see me so end up putting dipped headlights on instead even though its not yet dark.
I've thought about fitting angel-eyes myself (too tricky) or paying someone to do it for me (too expensive).
Whilst browsing through Ebay I came across these.......
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XENON-SIDE-LIGHT- ... dZViewItem
Got them today, fitted in 30 seconds, and the are a lot brighter..... I would recommend them to anyone with a post 1999 face lift Z.
I went for the 'white' by the way, brighter, but the still have a blue tinge.

Risks
Don't be tempted to drive on your fancy new bright PARKING lights only - in this day of universal dipped beam use (whether necessary or not) the other party in any accident will scream that he could not see your car in time, due to your use of parking lights. This could transfer responsibility from the other party to you, even if you were really blameless.
The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations may permit driving on parking lights in well-lit 30 mph zones, but insurers always look for an escape clause, and take the view that if it is necessary to use lights at all, then dipped beams are necessary.

Mike's right. Side lights aren't bright enough to be much use. However I like the distinctive sidelights on the Zed. I know of no other car with front sidelights like them. I tried to find a bulb of more than 5W to put in mine so they show better, but no luck. What you have found seems to be the answer.

I got mine from Ben whilst at the 2006 Bimmerfest, at that time they were £4.00 a pair I think.
Worthwhile upgrade especially if you go for upgraded 'White' headlamp bulbs.
