Soft top problems

Post by Fender2004 »

Hi
The bottom corners of my soft top where the rear window meets the mohair top is starting to come away  . Is there any special glue I can use, or can I just use a contact adhesive. I've talken two photos to give you a better idea.
Cheers for any help

I know the car could do with a wash, but the car has been in the garage for a while to allow me to do some jobs on the car, and also to keep the snow and rain off.

Hi

I also have this problem on the top edge
It is a common problem

There is a thread on here

Release the top
Push cover under rubber
Very carefully apply a clear silicone bead
under cover rubber,
With no presure to top, the job is a lot easier

leave to dry becfore you close roof

Stick with a non hardening adhesive like silicone so should you need to replace the rear screen in the future you will or a fitter will be able to remove all old traces of it to enable the the sticky pad around the new window to stick and seal properly. :)

One thing I might suggest .... if you are going to glue it do it as soon as possible, as I had a similar look on my soft top but it had been left for so long (be previous owner) that the rubber had shrunk. Plus the 'canvas' was not glued down around the window. Hence: leaks. The soft top had not been taken care of.

Just got my car back on Friday with a whole new soft top. And I will be doing whatever is necessary to take good care of this soft top.
