beesting aerial

Post by Diamondj »

Just bought a new aerial, a stubby beesting, just wondered about taking the old aerial off. Any tips on taking it off smoothly as it doesn't seem to want to budge and i don't want to break it?

I got it on ebay and it's more of a stubby than a beesting to be fair and it is just the aerial unit (no new base), i'm hoping it will look really good but if it doesn't......that's why i need to make sure my original aerial doesn't get damaged as it might end up having to go back on the car. If it goes on well and works as it should i'll pass the seller info on as they had other items too but; no point passing info on until i know that i haven't ended up with a piece of crud :)

If you have an OEM aerial on the car currently it should just unscrew. It may be a little stuck if its not been removed for years but worth being carefull as it is possible to break the thread off the base unit which is c£80 to replace

nb use some WD40 if in doubt but just protect the paintwork

As matter of interest what does the OEM look like ? mine is black with what looks like a wire wrapped round the outside of it but sealed.

thanks

I fitted a solid type stubby aerial some time ago and thought it looked good. I then thought what would happen if someone decided to bend it  I think the result would be a knackered aerial base or even worse a damaged wing.

Decided to put the OEM aerial back on as its the whippy type so will bend easily without causing other damage.

The OEM aerial isn't prettiest aerial out there with twisted wire effect :|

Good quality and big improvement over black plastic

I copied Yalden and went for a Honda one:

Honda on the left, standard on the right. It's a lot smaller and smarter than the BMW one.
