BMW's Shorty Sporty Aerial & a Few Shiny Pics
BMW's Shorty Sporty Aerial & a Few Shiny Pics
Popped to my local dealer today to pick up a bottle of Nano Wax to do the Zed as its and spotted a shorty aerial on the parts desk shelf so thought I would get one for the 1 Series. Was surprised it was a poor fit so tried it on the Zed and it fitted a treat , looks similar to the Honda aerial some have fitted. Anyways a few pics after giving the Zed the once over

Thanks for the compliments guys
Jon, you beat me too it I just dug out the invoice to post the part number.
Just one thing I haven't a clue if the aerial works on the Zed as I have a hole in the dash at the mo, Gazhyde very kindly lent me his removal tool so the Sony headunit was whipped out yesterday, haven't got around to fitting the Becker as yet
Mr T, don't worry the Boots factor 5 brought the Zed up nicely and the nanowax suited me very well!

Think you're right Jon, although it doesn't fit too well on the 1er as when fully screwed home there is a gap between the aerial and the base I have actually got a Peugeot/Citroen stubby on the 1er which fits perfectly and snugly onto the aerial base which is half the height of the BMW stubby, all the more disapointing it doesn't fit as well.Jonttt wrote:I think they are a pretty new BMW product ie BMW reacting to the popular trend of fitting smaller aerials. Pricey but I think you can be sure they work well.

Hey tim, that car is so clean it must be a shame to take it on the dirty roads. that really looks in showroom condition, no wonder you keep it under wraps
Great stuff Rob can't wait to see them on your Zed IMHO theyre the nicest and best suited alloys, plus with the Type 3s so easy to clean and wax up, I always liked the alloys you had off me but were a pain in the ar$3 to keep clean, especially if you did them every weekw4tkins wrote:Yep got them in the end tim. I was a bit worried about the performance of the ebay ones and read a positive review on the bmw sports antenna and it looked just as good so I thought id be safe then sorry and keep the car with oem partsTitanTim wrote:Interesting that some have gone for the BMW aerial as opposed to the much cheaper fiver stubbies off e-bay?Amz wrote:wow, I put my order in for a sports antenna just on saturday, how bizare, I will be picking it up soon this week

Completely agree as I too like to stick with OEM, but very disapointed the BMW aerial is a poor fit on my 1 Series which surprised me so put the Pug stubby aerial back on which is a perfect fit Odd.Amz wrote:I was a bit worried about the performance of the ebay ones and read a positive review on the bmw sports antenna and it looked just as good so I thought id be safe then sorry and keep the car with oem partsTitanTim wrote:Interesting that some have gone for the BMW aerial as opposed to the much cheaper fiver stubbies off e-bay?Amz wrote:wow, I put my order in for a sports antenna just on saturday, how bizare, I will be picking it up soon this week

My stubby was less than a £5 note. Don't listen to the radio very often these days now Wogan has been pensioned off.
If I could get rid of the aerial completely I would, but the hole would let in the rain!
The radio signal is acceptable with my cheapy, but now I have a new head unit I doubt the radio will get used at all now (iPhone plugged in to the USB socket = endless hours of iTunes library).

I bought a £3 stubby in the hope that the reception is so bad I don't ever have to stumble across Chris Moyles or any other radio DJ/tw*t ever again. the crackling interference is so much more interesting.
Why can't they sell headunits that have no radio facility

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

How big or small is this - can you measure up please? (talking about the aerial BTW )
Might be worth doing a pic of this one alongside the original one. I'm interested in ordering one but would like to see difference between this and the original one. Recently ordered one off ebay from the Citroen and it looked great at about 6/7 cm long but reception was absolute pants.
Thanks
