That looks cosy Tim, hope you put your cleaning kit in a frost free place though.
I don't do alot too be honest, main things are;TWO wrote:I'm now finally considering throwing a blanket over the Zed for the winter
To ensure there is no problems next year; are there any "must do's" you would recommend before the Zed is finally put into hibernation?
1) Wash and wax but make sure the car is thoroughtly dry before storing.
2) A few pounds more in the tyres.
3) I tend to give a light spray of WD40 over the engine etc to keep any condensation away, wipe off any excess off rubber and plastics.
4) Chock wheels and leave handbrake off.
5) Leave hood open but not down to let rubbers expand.
6) Most important hook upto a CTEK charger too keep the battery conditioned.
7) Its a good idea to change engine oil but I never bother.
8) Check that no rodents can get into the garage or wherever your storing the car
Tim.

My Zed has been all prepared & put to bed for the winter this weekend too. Apart from the obvious things to do for storage, I've set a few mouse traps in the garage as well. I caught 8 of the little sods during last winter! ( Peanut butter works best to tempt them!)
A colleague of mine got a mouse in her garage last winter & it made a right meal of part of the wiring on her 206 over Christmas! Best to try to avoid that one!

If you end up with a Z3M you will not be disapointed, I had a 2.8 before this one, which was nice but nothing compared to the ///M

Thanks chaps, I'm scanning the net on a regular basis for Z3Ms and Z4s, the Z3 appeals slightly more as it will fit in the garage easier
Only thing that puts me off the Z3M is the history of boot/diff bracket probs, I'm just unsure as driving how its mean't to be driven its always going to be at the back of mind
Tim.

I would say on that point of the boot failings is that you would probably have to drive them to their extreme to suffer from that problem, the car is quick enough without thrashing it. I drive mine and never give it a second thought.

After the October weather, I think my next six month's ///M ing will be from 1st May to 31 October 2012. Until then I have a few bits 'n' bobs to do.
The last 30 days have been quite painful. Lots of sun and no M .

Do the Z3M's really do that much damage to pop the welds and unhinge the diff?
Surely you'd have to be a hooligan for that to happen rather than it be the cause of a manufacturing weakness.
I'm surprised people tuck their cars up for the winter. Nice to have the luxury of doing that mind.
Any Z3M/Z3 owners use their cars year round?
Looking at my budget I was originally planning on a Z3 3.0 Sport but might just stretch my budget a bit further to either a Z4 3.0 or perhaps a Z3M....it's the running/insurance costs of the M's that scare me a little.
TitanTim.
Is that a bed sheet over your car?
Kingsize or double?
I want to buy a car cover for my MR2 but it must also fit my future Z (whichever it's going to be) but a bed sheet might do the job.
I rent my garage in my road and I don't have the luxury of being able to heat it or light it and Spiders poo on my car so I regularly have to scrape away their cobwebs where they hang out.

Where on the car are Z3's prone to possible corrosion?myredzed wrote:I run my 2.8 as a DD all year round out of necessity. No hardtop for me as I like to drop the roof whenever I get the chance. No problems with the hood so long as you look after the fabric and the seals.
Is it in the boot area due to potential leaks around the tail lights/3rd brake light or are there other areas too?
I thought the chassis' were galvanised? Is this true?

Not just the Z3M's as there have been issues with the pre-2000 1.9's and 2.8's if you want to read more you could start HEREstevenb wrote:Do the Z3M's really do that much damage to pop the welds and unhinge the diff?

The later 2.2's, 3.0's and 1.8's (8 valve version of the 1.9) seem to be OK - perhaps BMW modified the design / introduced better quality control after two class actions were started in the States.

I work at Mercedes in Milton Keynes and when we had the bad weather last December a lot of the cars really struggled.
We've been lucky as my Wife drivesa FWD Toyota Celica which has been fine in the bad weather.
Gets us out of an awkward situation and meant my Integra stayed in the garage.
