BMW red hoods

Post by Phil »

The red hood on my M is looking shabby but I wanted an original one which I was led to believe is no longer available.
WRONG - they are available from Germany to special order on a 6-8 lead in time. I have ordered one today and had to pay upfront for it via my local Sytners. I understand BMW have a policy of doing special requests for customers on all the cars.
If you want to know how much it is - dont ask - it'll scare you.

Oh yes - no car club discount on this item :(
Sapphire black/Imola red and black interior/ red roof/ S54 - the only RHD one made.

I'll give you chapter and verse when I get the receipt from Sytners cos I cant remember exactly how much it was. The fitting is being done by a chap who does Sytners hoods, or at least used to, but I've gone direct to him.
It is approx £1500 all in though.

Well that's definately worthwhile if the hood is on its way out. Pics of your new hood when it arrives please!!

I had an aftermarket red hood fitted a couple if years ago for £600. I wish I had gone for the genuine article though since its not wearing as well as it should. The genuine hoods always look better IMHO.

hmmmm, dont know if id pay that or go for an aftermarket hood for 600.

saying that, my car is totally standard, and i would probably have to go for an original.

im convinced phil, why settle for second best.
you do get what you pay for in most things.

do you get any warranty with it?

For that price the warranty should cover everything underneath it. :) I really like the look of a red roof on certain coloured cars so I understand why you'd want to replace it with aon original.

I believe there is a 2 year guarantee on BMW parts as standard.
