Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Hi to you all. Not exactly bought this week but bought recently and after a period of looking for a more satisfactory way of stopping the rack from sliding down the boot-lid I finally settled for using the straps that are supplied with the rack.
This La Prealpina rack is a reversible one but it is not recommended to have the high part of the perimeter rail at the back - it is designed to act as a stop bar in the event of a rapid decease in speed being necessary or in the event of a rear -end shunt.

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Hi Brian. Thank you. I have been trying to do just that but Photobucket gives the options that I have copied & pasted below. When I hover over the image or Image thumb line and click I am only getting copy address which appears to put my whole album in rather than just the one individual image. I am picking the Img tab as opposed to the URL tab and it is seemingly putting the whole Photobucket address in and loading all of the individual images albeit of my Z3 in the different guises including the registration change that was carried out.
Depending on what loads - I might Edit/Totally delete the post.
I was finally able to post three selected images BUT only by signing back into Photobucket and showing all of my current images without any links/address details and then hovering over the chosen image and selecting from a Right-click the option to copy image address.
Photobucket is a total pain in the arse - I have just tried to sign back in with saved User name and Password and I am being told that they are incorrect.
Uploading from ones own computer is EASY PEESY and the whole of ones life in images is not at risk of a public film show.

Today I bought mine a shiny new (well new anyway) MoT certificate! No advisories - verbal or written.
I filled it up afterwards at the Shell station at Hazlemere Crossroads north of High Wycombe whilst a lovely black Z3M Roadster was at an adjacent pump. The lady who was driving it was inside in the shop and I didn't feel it quite 'right' to go over and say how I admired her lovely M Plenty of scope for misunderstandings I thought...

Hi thompy93. Your Z did not get the "350 dollar/ 230 pound speeding ticket",you got it for you whilst innocently dragging the Z into the apparently serious infringement of the driving laws.thompy93 wrote:Got my Z a 350 dollar/ 230 pound speeding ticket today
I guess by the 93 in your forum ID that you are a twenty two year old and just entering a very very steep learning curve.
You quote the fine as in the dollar - is this American or Canadian or some other dollar value as to where the offence was committed ?
I see that your ID carries the national flag of Bouvet Island which uses the Norwegian Krona as the currency. Does this mean that you are a student or living and working away from home ?

Sigh, never use numbers in your nickname, eh? Wouldnt call it serious, as 21 others also got stopped at the same spot, by laser. Old highway where they put the speedlimit waaay down, to force us over to pay the toll when we use the new.
I've been driving since I was 16, and my work consist of alot of driving, so im not one of those premature boys who just got their license and going full speed everywhere. To say it like this, its a 40 km/h road, where it was 60 km/h before the new road came. I was captured driving in the amazing speed of 55 km/h, which resulted in a 350 dollar fine, which is low by Norwegian standards actually.
And its the national flag of Norway. Im from there, and living there, just put it in usd/pound since I knew alot of you are from USA/UK.
And please dont pretend that you never have been speeding with your Z. It's just that no one saw you

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
A nice new windscreen!!
A new BMW OEM example with a new weather strip around the outside and even a new airbag warning sticker. All fitted by Glasstec as a private job rather than through insurance.
Paul said my old one was original so that didn't do too badly at all, 17 years and 96,000 miles and it was still transparent though horribly pock marked with small chips and proto cracks.
The new screen has a black circle where the mirror attaches rather than a clear/tinted circle so you can't see the inside of the fixing bracket anymore.
This was quite near the bottom of "things to do" list when I got the car so really getting somewhere now. What will I do if/when I run out?

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
£523 all in.
Not cheap but it was all BMW parts and he's the top guy in the field ( I have no affiliation at all by the way). He even signs the screen in an area that can't be seen once it is in place.
Its a long story but when I considered claiming on insurance one "technician" for a major windscreen contractor went a bit quiet and sweaty at the idea of dong the M so I thought I'd get it done properly.

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
I've also ticked off another job from my initial list recently (bought car in May 2014) and this was a curiously satisfying one. The analogue clock in the dashboard just did not keep good time at all. I could just about rely on it if I set it right when I started a journey since it would lose about 1 minute an hour, but once tucked up in the garage of course it just lost the plot completely. Although every now and again it would infuriatingly work quite well for a bit and loose a quite acceptably small amount of time. It was as if the act of setting it right caused the cogs inside to mesh together in a particular way and sometimes the good cogs were meshed and it worked (better).
Anyway I finally got fed up with this random timekeeping and found a new (old) one in America on EBay for about $60 I think. It duly arrived and was a perfect match for mine, all good until I played with it and discovered that when the minute hand was on 12 the hour hand was always between two hour markers. I moaned to the salvage yard in the U.S. and they gave me half my money back. Then I sent the American clock up north to a specialist for servicing. They did an excellent job really quickly, even refreshing the paint on the hands. Cost about £69 all in. (JDO Instruments if anyone interested).
Now back and the hands point to regulation parts of the dial as they are supposed to. I've fitted it (really easy don't let that put you off) and it keeps perfect time. The old one never worked at all compared to this and I've realised that it was bugging me far more than I thought it was.
With hindsight of course I should have taken mine out and sent it to be serviced but.........seen side by side the US one is in slightly better condition overall than mine and its a year younger. Anyway now I have two!

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
You can get a brand new identical VDO analogue clock for around £25 - £30... they do have a white face though, but this is easily corrected by removing the black face from your original clock and swapping it into the new clock...
Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
I put my Z3 through a new mot this week which it passed with no problems but looking online at the previous mot it had only done 300 miles this year so it's not surprising really..
So I thought I would treat it to a new drivers mirror as I think mine had been bodged back on with some Micky Metal in the past as it seems rather lose although it looks good as I redid the mirror bases both sides earlier in the year but a breaker up in Scotland has got me a new mirror for £57 with delivery....
I did look on eBay worldwide as it seems RHD drivers side mirrors fetch a premium and I thought buying a passenger side mirror from a LHD example would be the way to go but after paying import tax and postal charges the cheap mirror from abroad ends up costing about £150..
I also nearly got a set of tatty 15 inch wheels this week for the winter months for £32 (no reserve) which I won on eBay but the seller decided he wouldn't let me have them at that price after winning the bid and now wants more money £50 but I don't really want to deal with him even though I would have them at that price as he should of put a reserve on them and looking at his selling feedback it seems he has a habit of mucking people about..

I think he's breaking the law when you bid and win there is a contract between you and him to sell the item
I don't know if the law has changed but that use to be the case if you offered to buy some thing and your offer was accepted it's yours or report him to eBay and get him blocked

Does it matter what anyone else thinks? There are things on my car that other people probably won't like and there are thing on other people's cars that I don't like. If our cars were all identical, that would be very dull!thompy93 wrote:Not sure im allowed to post this on this thread, but im wondering about buying some stuff, but just want some others opinion if its too cheesy or not.

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
If the car is not an ZM then adding M badges can look a bit cheesy to anyone that knows the cars.
The hand break handle looks ok, not sure about the shoulder pads, might be ok in an M though.
The door handle covers really depend on the quality of them, if they look like aftermarket stick on tat then they will look bad, good ones combined with the chrome pack would probably be ok.
Roadster solutions do some that look ok. http://www.roadstersolutions.com/page7.html

I went for the pads with BMW logo, a safe choice i guess. And the Silver hand break handle (not chrome).
Ive seen the roadster solution ones before, and for me it looks like the "Z3 Door Pull Covers" are the same one as they sell on ebay - Covers with 3M tape, only double the price of what they are sold for on ebay
Anyone tried either of these? Door pull surround or cover.
Can also mention Ive received some gummi pflege and some chrome instrument rings

Life's too short for that. I don't understand these people that buy a car just to spend every waking moment 'detailing' it, and then getting all high-and-mighty about other people's cars with 'swirls', 'holograms' and other nonsensical-sounding phrases. I'd rather give mine a quick wash, drop the roof and go and enjoy it.

Personal choice. I think they look terrible, but some people like them. Personally I don't understand why someone buys a nice car then attaches a black, wrinkled duvet to the front, but each to their own.

Z3 2.8 Progress Journal (Mine)
Z3 1.9 Sport Progress Journal (Wifey's)
I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
