A new in car cam which I did a short test today
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2WdGegC ... e=youtu.be
Guess the only other car I passed?
Can't work out how to change the time as it came with no instruction manual so I'm stuck in 2010

Great driving, I noticed you didn't bother with the "SLOW" instruction once on your drive....
Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
lol, I need to play around with the cam a little, they don't like too much contrast and brightness but for just over 20 notes its not bad,Southernboy wrote:Great driving, I noticed you didn't bother with the "SLOW" instruction once on your drive....

Not sure what the background noise is on the video as I couldn't hear anything in the car. Nice thing about these cams is they start recording as soon as you switch the ignition on and record on a continous loop. I'm mainly bought it as it could be good evidence should anyone ever drive into you.

Wow Tim, proof that the Z3 has actually been out on the road
Where did you get the camera from (edit, missed your last post!), looks pretty good quality. And what happened to you chrome gill?

Haha, I was waiting for that, well I'm dusting the cobwebs off for winter use just looking at tyres at the mo to go on the new rims so it will get a shockg8jka wrote:Wow Tim, proof that the Z3 has actually been out on the road

Well I have to admit I knackered the gill on Sunday trying to get the badge off to replace it with a shiny new one , thought it would be a 10 min job I tried heating it up with a hairdryer to soften the sticky tape and used a plastic knife to try and prize it of which snapped, so tried a flatbladed screwdriver against an old credit card which slipped and scored and dinted the gill Oh well you live and learn. Got fed up with it so ordered a pair of new gills off Motormec last Sun and arrived yesterday . At least I have a spare should the badge ever go manky on the drivers side.

A full set of used 17" Style 78 alloys, fronts 7.5 - Rear 8.5J. Will use them as winter wheels. (just unwrapped and needing a clean)
Could do with a refurb at some point, the tyres were thrown in the deal FOC, Mitchelin Pilot Sport 3s with plenty of tread - Bonus

Not sure with that one but its common on devices with no menu system etc... to change it that a text file can be placed onto the hard disc which is read to set the time. You would need to know the format required though. May not apply to this one though ?TitanTim wrote:

No need to be stuck in a timewarp! Looks like you press the menu button 5 times, then use Rec and Up/Down to set the date and time.Jonttt wrote:Not sure with that one but its common on devices with no menu system etc... to change it that a text file can be placed onto the hard disc which is read to set the time. Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Thanks Robert, I did manage it in the end, just kept pressing the buttons It was easy to get the clock/date menu up but it was actually trying to select the time hours/mins that was the problem. The e-bay seller said the instruction manual was in Chinese so didn't include it, how did the seller know I wasn't Chinese?Robert T wrote:No need to be stuck in a timewarp! Best thing you could do is get some winter tyres on and use it. This year I've changed my whole outlook on putting the Zed in the garage and throwing a dust sheet over it. Slightly enforced with the Z4 having the summer runflatsJonttt wrote:A SORN registration

Fitted a Garmin satnav unit between the seats where the useless little container used to be, wired in with it's own charge source...also moved the imobiliser flashing red led to the same area. Wednesday the Eibach springs arrive (if the trucking strike doesn't interfere.. ) If all goes well, I'll have them fitted in on Thurs / Fri....

Hi Tim
That camera produces nice clear video. Have you got the details, I'd like to look one up for me.
Ah - just spotted your link further down the page so got the details.

For the money its not a bad little in car cam, it struggles a little on bright sunny days where there is alot of light contrast as you can see in the test video when it goes a tad dark, it might help to mount it higher up and pointing down slightly. To be honest I only really bought to fit in the Z4 as for some reason the Z4 seems to act as a magnet for early morning suicide racers who have to overtake and cut you up if its the last thing they do on earth.

Thats a neat install but a shame you can't view the maps whilst on the move, not that you really do that much anyways.

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Just my point in placing it there...The "voice" tells you where / when to turn etc etc. Don't really need to see the pictures really. And if you do, just unclip the unit, and unplug the power supply at the back, and there you go!!
Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
The worlds first elbow operated satnav?
Does it not keep telling you to make a U-turn all the time? After all the satnav must be thinking you have some pretty high reverse gearing?

I noticed yours has a 90 degree field of view but I was hoping to get something with a wider angle - to catch things happening at the front quarters so to speak. I wonder if the on screen menu can display speed as well, maybe I can catch a few coppers out - like one I was behind on the A3 a couple of days ago doing anything between 60 and 80!

Re: What did you buy your Z3 this week ?
Living in Africa, one becomes quite adept at using elbows.... The concept of a queue here is to stand as close as possible to the person in front of you...the premise is that you get to the front quicker???
So, elbows become very useful..especially if the person behind is wheezing, sneezing or generally behaving sickly...
Did you fancy the "reverse engineering"... I thought it was a neat idea, what with the somewhat restricted view through the widscreen rear mirror area, and seeing these things stuck on dashboards like alien robots just looks so cheap...
Actually I cuffed it a bit...I had considered cutting out a larger hole to suit the size of the garmin, and since it has a groove running around it's perimeter between the fron and back halves, I thought to use that groove as the locking in system...Then considered the need to take the center console out to do it and quickly lost speed.... Maybe one day when I really need to remove the console, I'll fit a fancier unit and do a more "fitted" install...'till then, this will suffice. It keeps the charge cable and the phallic charger unit neatly out of the way of the gear lever which really used to get in the way.
Next trick is to fit the center arm rest on the cup holder, so far it's cost me 1p for the 6 hinge bolts / screws.... Leather and padding will be £1.20...fitted !(! from the local auto trimmer). Amazing what one can get done from a photo off this forum...

I'm drooling over the carbon fibre. Wouldn't mind just a bit in mine to break up the expanse of cheap black plastic.

I am getting it from royal steering wheels, spoke to Jack very helpful. Have bought an exchange wheel off eBay so that I can keep my original wheel, it is done on an exchange basis.BladeRunner919 wrote:This is something I've been mulling over. I have chosen perforated sides and smooth leather top and bottom, but with a black strip at the top to signify the 12 o clock position, all with M stitching. Also having the wheel thicker and softer. Cost is £115 plus postage.
