This week I've had to buy a new battery for the M...

After 3 weeks of tucked up in the garage this weather must have killed it.. Wouldn't even jump start from our 4x4!

New bat in and everything's now fine :D

When you say 'fitted in the cold' do you mean you fitted it yourself??
If so how difficult was it?

fitted outside in the cold by a professional.

I watched the 4 hour process.

I would not attempt the fitting of a soft top.

It is a highly skilled job.

My mate has a saying: "If a job's worth doing, then it's worth paying someone else to do it!". :D I might treat my Z3 to a new soft top at some point, but I think it's one job I won't try myself.

Meanwhile, back on topic, I haven't bought my Z3 anything this week or for a number of weeks as I've just not been using it since I put the hard top on (I kind of knew this would happen). I must take it out for a run to make sure everything is freed off and to remind myself what a decent petrol engine sounds like (as I drive a 320d for work).

I did treat myself to a new projector this week though, but I guess that doesn't count unless I'm looking at pictures of my Z3 on it. :D

Hard top, HRW switch, petrol for a trip to Southampton to collect said hard top. Due to this i also had to buy lunch for the wife plus a trip to a shopping centre in Southampton which then cost me clothes money too.

hi Tim

Been looking on a site called 'Boot racks.co.uk'

Got some nice ones on there tbh for around 120 quid

get a slimline sports i think, was thinking of buying a retro old suitcase and attaching it to rack for additional easy storage, but would it look wrong on a sporty car or would it give it character???????

Retro Schedoni maybe ?? Retro is very difficult to create and look the part. You would need one of those bags with the straps and buckles...and well made, not to mention weather-proof. Or, go ultra and have one made in CF, or aluminium ??

I was looking at luggage racks for Christmas but I really didn't want a permanent one which required drilling and bolting into the boot-lid. There are a few "semi-permanent" ones around but they're quite pricey and like Southenboy said I would still need a quality waterproof bag or box to strap to it.

To get the classic look I'd be after a leather chest or case, probably an antique one, but I imagined I would be looking for years until I found one I liked!

I ended up settling for a "Boot Bag" which is a strong waterproof holdall with built in straps and comes with a rubber mat that it sits on to stop slipping. I decided that if I found later that I still really wanted a rack then I could at least use the Boot Bag as the case to sit on it!

Google to find their website if you're interested, I think the classic one is the right size for a Z - they do a bigger one but I think it's more for saloons etc.

Today i bought Sports Slimline boot rack which will be here early next week once its on i will send pics

That is all lol, rather that is enough lol pockets now empty but to be fair everything i have bought is as a result of selling items from the zed which i have upgraded/replaced. I have made 250 quid off items others need(havent ripped eyes out either when setting prices) and have plowed it all back into the car.

I need a new bonnet(ouch) and i think i will have a full respray next year.....how much would i be looking to pay for a respray, not changing colour just tidying it up.

Full respray your looking at £2-3k for a proper job Geordie.

The only way to do for less is to know a mate in the trade or get a half-hearted job where they mask around everything rather than remove.

My advise is to get it done properly, strip the whole car yourself if you have to (to keep costs down). You still need to ensure you use someone with experience of your type of car and who is diligent / careful or everything will be broken in the removal process (eg. kidney grills, plastic trim etc). IMO there's no point having new paint job and being disappointed with the results.

I've found a guy in Pickering who used to work for BMW for years if your still in the N/East?

thanks for that chrisp 2-3k is a bit steep for me tbh, i do have a m8 who will spray my new bonnet for a couple of hundred quid so was gonna ask him to do the rest of car, its not that bad and it might actually be cheaper to get chips away to tidy it up thinking about it, just got a couple of scrathces etc here and there. 2-3k is more than car is worth tbh
thanks for that though can you pm me the guys details might give him a ring and sound him out tbh

cheers

I bought Zelda a new spacesaver spare with unused continental tyre for £70. Also a 36mm oil filter socket, £9.99. Oh and some Esso 97 super unleaded. Took her out on a shopping trip, top down in the sunshine. :drive So I've got my fix!

Cheers all,

Bonzo.

PM sent - he's called Steve Barker, based in Pickering N. Yorkshire.

Don't be alarmed with the £2-3k for a re-spray, as I said I'm talking about a proper thorough job here, such as one would do on a classic like the 'M' - it can be done for £1000 upwards from what I've read / heard / seen. But you generally get what you pay for. That said I think you would get a decent bodyshop to do a Z3 bonnet for £200-250, smaller panels will be anywhere between £75-£150.

A good respray will cost a few thousand.

You do get what you pay for.

I've seen cheaper resprays and they are not brilliant.

I agree, I recently had mine done and to be honest I'm not 100% happy. At a quick glance it's lovely.

This is the stuff you need, a 65ml scuffmaster kit. I will show you later tonight, its used and sold by the same guy who refurbished the sports seats for someone on here recently. The results are fantastic :)

iPhone photos under fluorescent lights, so could be.. the dash is a lighter colour but I wonder if that is the finish on plastic as opposed to leather, plus maybe faded in sunlight? It says Estoril on the console and door cards,
