Re: Hamann hardtops...
So, in total the best part of £2.5k plus having to go and collect the thing from Stafford, or paying a fair wedge extra to have it delivered to you. And there is no way to actualy see one of these things in the flesh before shelling out the money. That blows.
I would definitely think about saving for one - I wouldnt pay that kind of money for wheels as some do, but the roof totally transforms the car into a different animal. However, i dont think I would do it on the strength of a couple of pictures. I need to see one of these bad boys fitted.

I think the problem for many is the total cost will be more than their Zed is worth

Re: Hamann hardtops...
That may be true, but thats not the way I look at it. Im not bothered by extra power -2.8L is fine for me so why would i spent £7k on an Z3M? but i could spend £2.5k on a hamaan roof which would make my low mileage car jaw droppingly gorgeous and pretty damn rare. Not that I currently have £2.5k to spare, but if i did, i spend the money on that rather than a set of BBS wheels for example.TitanTim wrote:I think the problem for many is the total cost will be more than their Zed is worth

Everytime I see that roof fitted, it says "yes, yes, yes!"....

Re: Hamann hardtops...
I spoke again to Robert at AutoVogue today to clarify a few things. The £2148 needs paying in full at order placement. I noticed their pricelist has changed and now just lists one part number for the Hardtop - 10 033 142 - for vehicles with and without roll bars. He stated there are actually two part numbers - one for pre 99 and one post '99 cars. He thinks they both have the same external shape. He thinks! I'm thinking £2148 and he is 'thinking' it will be the hardtop we want. I asked if anyone has ordered one recently and he said not.
Soooo what we need is for someone brave to part with £2148 to de-risk purchase for the rest of us. What is the quality like? Is delivery going to happen in time? Does it look just like the sexy pictures we have all been drooling over? Anyone feeling lucky?

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Unfortunately guys I'm out as I've purchased a different brand of hardtop
On of these will still be on my shopping list but I've raided the piggy bank now so will have to wait
Shame as I was quite looking forward to being a guinea pig. As suggested above I would get the exact spec and pictures of the hardtop you are ordering and be very specific with the order. That way you can claim you can refuse receipt and claim your money back if its not what was agreed on

Re: Hamann hardtops...
The price of £2148, does that include the fitting kit and I'm guessing its extra to get painted up and fitted. Realistically if its delivered to Stafford you would need to get them to fit it unless you have a van. So say £250 to £300 to get painted up probably 300 or more if Autovogue paint it and if they fit it your going to be talking £200 or so. In all then around the £2600 mark or thereabouts

Hadn't noticed that swap the rear axle of an ///M?
Maybe he's bucking the trend and turning his ///M into a 2.8 lucky likey

Def not an M....You can see the spare wheel housing on the right...It's actually a detuned 2.0..... It's the only way to afford the roof!!

Re: Hamann hardtops...
Absolutely love this roof. But wow the cost of it.
Has anyone considered butchering a cheap OEM roof? You would need to find a good body shop, but imagine the possibilities. Instead of just hoop bumps in the roof, you could exaggerate and put helmet bumps in lke some TVRs. Also you could put a split screen at the rear and make it narrower like the Hannman one. Just a thought. I'm sure it wouldn't cost £1000 + cost of OEM roof.

Re: Hamann hardtops...
I think there fear is over safety.
One think you do know about the Germans is any product like this will have full TUV approval.
I for one do not relish the thought of a hardtop disintegrating around me under a bit of stress. You can of course volunteer if you like
The other problem is that there is really no such thing as a cheap hardtop. If you get one for less than £400 you are doing well and a fitting kit will cost you £250+

I reckon it's a must have item...sort of " xmas gift to myself - 2014"....

It crossed my mind, all that is needed is a fibreglass skin with a smaller window and humps over the existing, shouldn't be difficult for an experienced Fibreglass company.Strikem wrote:Absolutely love this roof. But wow the cost of it.

All the current BMW "Performance" accessories seem to be carbon fibre i.e. rear spoilers, mirror caps, diffusers etc. So perhaps carbon fibre?
Re: Hamann hardtops...
Yes carbon wrap is an option. Im thinking silver will be difficult to match so perhaps dark grey or black could work.
Ordered one today.

Re: Hamann hardtops...
Green...green...green...that's how I feel!!!
Well done Deano...I don't think CF is a cool idea. I reckon it's already seen it's "fashionable" status days, and will soon be a fad of the early 20-teens. I would opt for a subtle grey metallic, sufficiently darker than the car not to look like a poor match. When people see it, they must see the quality, cost, and class.

Wow, that is good news. Looking forward to visiting my parents in Leeds sometime soon
Re: Hamann hardtops...
Yes Barry you have it right. Metallic grey is most likely the best.
I got Autovogue to mail me details of the hardtop including pictures and scope of supply. It feels slightly risky being the ginea pig but they know more orders may follow if this one goes smoothly. Delivery is stated as 6 weeks which is better than previously quoted.
I have visions of a german guy dusting off the moulds and asking for manufacturing instructions to be retrieved from the archive:-|
