Hardtop fitting kit installation ?

Post by Z3cade »

Hi, have recently purchased an original bmw HT fitting kit..

How are they installed? Do you need to remove any panels?

Is there a detailed guide anywhere?

Cheers

The foamy trim will need removing which sits either side of the hoops, when I fitted mine I uncoupled the hydraulic ram from the ball joint( if you've got an electric hood) as it allowed more access. It's then really just simply bolting it in place. Although the difficulty comes in perfecting its placement so it sits properly.

So no panels need removing? How do you remove the foam trims? As mine seem stuck in there well!

Also does the roof have to be up or down?

Cheers :D

It does come out with a bit of force " keep them" in case you remove the HT fittings kit one day
SI wilson showed me how to do it, :dunce: looks complicated but easy peasy

Roof down, Warm day, just a few bolts

The tricky bit aligning the roof, you need help its bloody heavy

Roof down, the foam parts from memory have a plastic part stuck to them which locate on a lug. I think it was wiggle and tug but you have to be really careful that you don't rip the foam from the plasticky part. There might be an easier way!

Arrr shucks.. Thank you, but I can't take credit for all the cars work as it was lovingly owned by two previous members, Dolfan and K10ger who spent hours and £s getting it to the stage she's at. I've done a few things eg few niggles, stage 3 mapping and spoiler etc but now just like to preserve its current condition..
I love to just sit and look at it.. It's quite sad really

I don't actually have a Hardtop yet but just bought a fitting kit as it came up cheap locally.
I to love the look of the hardtops hence why I want one.. Just think it would complete the car off. I love top down motoring more also but just have an itch for a Ht
