Seat connector
Seat connector
I've managed to source some M Seats which are in a dire state, so that's my winter project.
First thing is to get the electrics sorted. The Seats are Pre facelift i belive as they have the 3 separate connectors.
I need to source the correct facelift seat side connector. Does anyone know the part number of this yellow connector.
The part number on the bag is for the push-in contacts.

Re: Seat connector
If you have a look on realoem there is a section for connectors and the pins etc. I'd guess that if you looked up the part number for the pins you have, you'll find the connector on the same diagram.
Re: Seat connector
The part number of the yellow connector is on the right hand side of the picture.
If you are looking for the other half of the plug then put this into real OEM

Re: Seat connector
I got all the part numbers for the connector, but it's no help. None of them show up on realoem.
I think what I need is the complete seat cable with connector, like this 3 series one.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171137584580? ... 1438.l2649
I have searched realoem for the z3 equivalent part, but no luck.
Slightly tempted to just order one in the hope that it's similar enough to modify.
Unless someone here has a pair of facelift seat cable to sell?

Part 5 is your friend I think, it is a wiring loom repair kit that converts from old to new

Re: Seat connector
I saw that and decided it was the chassi side, not the seat side because the connector looks wrong.
Are you sure?

Re: Seat connector
I think I might have exactly opposite problem - I have pre-facelift car and I have bought seats from Z3M facelift.
Can anyone suggest which part number do I need to make it work together?

Re: Seat connector
Fairly certain this is the correct part, Robert T has had a connector retrofitted, he maybe has a part number he could cross reference.
Re: Seat connector
OXO, as I understand, you are in opposite position as me - you have facelifted car and want to fit pre-facelifted M seats. As I got from forum/links this part is for my situation (pre-facelift car with facelift seats), and you need exact opposite to this part.

Re: Seat connector
I might be interested. The only problem is that my M seats are still at customs (I hope to get them next week) and my z3 is at bmw dealership service where they are changing poli bushes and engine cylinder head and tons of other parts. So it can take a month or even more before I will get my car.
If we can do switch so that no wire needs to be cut, and you can wait, then we can do that. Otherwise I can just replace connectors from original seats or I will buy this adaptor part mentioned above.
Your connectors look the same as mines on original seats - I know because I did seat shift fix this summer for my original seats.

Re: Seat connector
I can wait, as we aren't using the car in the winter.
But, I also want to make progress, so I will be trying to source the connector. I think I read that the cable conversion part is no longer available.
Keep in touch. We may be able to do something. Are you in the uk?

Re: Seat connector
I had the same problem when I fitted my ///M seats, from memory the adaptor was the wrong way round for my purposes. I spent ages trying to source the part numbers for all the bits.

Re: Seat connector
I have a similar query:
M seats and I have the black and white connectors as per your photo. But there is also a round yellow connector that connects at the back of the seat and the wires disappear up the back of the seat.
Anyone know what connector is? I have 1 set of seats with and another without....
I'll try get a pic this weekend.

Re: Seat connector
Think that will be on the passenger seat for the seat occupancy sensor, drivers seat doesn't have one as they rightly assume someone would be in that seat if you crashedthe_youth wrote:I have a similar query:

Re: Seat connector
It is on the driver side though....
Re: Seat connector
Despite having a long email thread with Cooper BMW, we have failed at getting any part numbers for the connector or wiring.
So all that is left to do is to see if someone has facelift seat bases or wiring for sale.

Re: Seat connector
Maybe your seats are from a LHD?
Re: Seat connector
No they are definitely from a UK car. You recognise the connector?

Re: Seat connector
I think the guess is that they are for the passenger seat occupancy sensor. I can't think of anything that the driver's side should have that the passenger side does not.

Re: Seat connector
I'm sure looking at the shape of it it is the airbag sensor. Maybe the seats came from a coupe and the seat belt guides have been added retrospectively.
Re: Seat connector
We are getting closer. Coopers have found the tensioner repair cable. 61 10 8 413 898
It has the yellow connector and a wire to the belt tensioner.
Need to find the other wires and contacts now.

Re: Seat connector
The proper bmw modified repair kits came with both halves of the plug and heat shrink and terminals.
Re: Seat connector
Do you know if there's a part number for that Clive?Clivebse wrote:The proper bmw modified repair kits came with both halves of the plug and heat shrink and terminals.
Re: Seat connector
Hi yes there was but I can't remember what it was and when I left dealer they chucked all the old useful information out. I think the Z3 one was the same as the E36 kit. It's been a long time since I sold

Hi OXO
You've pointed me in the right direction! Many thanks.
The yellow connector as per my pics is the seat belt tensioner. For some reason on the driver side it is that type of connector but on the passenger side it has a flat yellow connector (with 2 out of 4 pins).
Easy swap now!
Re: Seat connector
Hi OXO,
This was driving me mad so out to the car with spanners in hand and my car now in bits this is what I found.
The connector under the seat is a modular connector, my connector houses the following: -

I have take some pics below of all the connectors etc that I have, please note this was my passanger seat.

Re: Seat connector
Brian
Are your seats pre or post facelift? The connectors on my seats are quite different.
I'm going to my garage to take pics!

Re: Seat connector
Mine are pre-facelift then (which makes sense as it a 1999 car).
These are the connectors on the passenger side:
black and white connectors for power seats and heating
Red connector for seat belt tensioner and white for occupancy sensor
Driver side is the same except for the seat belt tensioner which is this cable and connector
Didn't realise there were several iterations of cable connectors.......

Re: Seat connector
^^^^ Those are the connectors OXO is trying to replace for the newer style.
Re: Seat connector
Thank you Brian. Thats a great help.
Re: Seat connector
No problem OXO, With the pre tensioner cable being marked as a repair cable I wonder if it comes as a kit of parts with all the other connectors/terminals in the pack?OXO wrote:Thank you Brian. Thats a great help.
