Re: can you identify this pipe?
Z3s don't have an MPG gauge, so no. It's part of the vacuum pipework.
If you mean the mpg calculated by the trip computer, then that's calculated by the ecu based on injector opening etc.

Re: can you identify this pipe?
It splits into a "tree" of four little pipes that connect to each injector - a specific feature of the M44 engine designed to help the fuel/air mixture atomise.

Re: can you identify this pipe?
No. That's from a 3-series. Must have been swapped at some point.
Re: can you identify this pipe?
Does the MPG gauge on your dash actually work or does it always read 0?
Re: can you identify this pipe?
shows 50mpg, then as soon as i set off it goes to 0mpg...Desperado wrote:Does the MPG gauge on your dash actually work or does it always read 0?

Re: can you identify this pipe?
The "econometer" was part of the e30 / 3series / 5 and 7 series of that time. It wasn't of much value in any accurate sense...it merely indicated an aproximation of the Litres / 100km you were using in your driving style. Essentially it worked on a vacuum sensor...as you lifted your foot from the gas it created a vacuum which was reflected on the guage by a drop towards a lower value, and the opposite when you pressed down on the gas.
Of greater value at that time was the calculator which would indicate the estimated mileage available given the volume of fuel in the tank and the speed one was driving at...although it wasn't 100% accurate, since it didn't take into account the terrain you still had to encounter ahead, it re-calculated frequently enough to give a general indication of the range still available to you. All these "gimmicks" have since been dropped in favour of (assumed common sense and...) a simple warning light on the fuel guage, which will tell you you have aprox 50kms of fuel left before you should put your trainers on...
