Honestly what do you think?

Post by Z3andZ4 »

Eventually had the Zunsport chrome lower grille fitted today.....

Very interested to get your thoughts and/or feedback.

I am personally not 100% convinced yet and need to get used to seeing it in the sun glistening.......

It certainly lifts everything.........

Not keen on the kidney grills but the lower grill isn't too bad.

Just my opinion.

I think a silver car like yours carries it off. I've seen these kits and can't make my mind up 100% one way of the other, either. Similar styles look good on certain Jags and Bentleys :D

Looks great :)

Fitted mine way back in 2009,

Theyre good quality and mine is the same as the day it was fitted,

Not so keen on the kidney grills but just personal preference.

you seem to have mounted it from behind . I like TitanTims as he has mounted it from the front inwards . yours is outwards ...... I prefer the inward mounting

I imagine the reason for this is, the 3 litre bumper aperture is open at the back as the larger engine needs more airflow, which allows for mounting of the grille from behind the aperture. On mine being the 1.9 the bumper aperture is blanked off at the back with a riveted plate, i.e. there is no airflow which means its only possible to mount the grille from the front. This means it sits further forward. Its held in place with 2 clips at the bottom and number plate holder at the the top :)

That's odd - on my 1.9 the lower aperture is open. In fact I need to put some sort of grille in to stop stones etc.

Not a great photo but this is mine, you can just make out the top edge of a black plastic blanking plate held in place with pop rivets.

Unsure if there is a difference between pre and post facelift.

My pre-facelift 1.9 is also blocked-off with a riveted plastic piece at the rear.

Thanks Del, I always thought it was open to be honest and thought I'd wasted my money when I bought the grille as I didn't think it woukd fit as the clips hook the grille in place at the rear of the bumper aperture, it just meant prising the blanking plate back to get the clips to hook into place. I'm guessing the 4 cyl engines don't require as much cooling. I do notice the car heats up nice and quick on cold mornings so the restricted airflow through the bumper probably helps.

In answer to the OP's question, I am usually a strictly OEM look owner, but I do like that and have used woven stainless wire mesh to replace my Westfield grille too. It has a nice vintage Bentley air about it.

See here - it doesn't do it justice but...

I don't like the kidney grills, seen this in the flesh and thought they look 'fake' and tacky

However... the same car had the lower grill fitted and I thought that looked really good.

But I didn't like the 'zun sport' badge so I contacted the supplier who said that they would be happy to provide one without it.

This is on my wish list but will be interested to know first whether the fit differently depending on what type of bumper you have as this could vary the look?

I was wondering if aircon cars had that open to aid cooling? Mine does have aircon, but it purely a guess, and based on a sample of one entirely inconclusive!

I like you like the lower grill but don't like the Zun sport badge either. When I considered buying one a while back that's what stopped me. I contacted justroadster and they said it was welded on and couldn't be removed :bawl: who've you spoken to to say you can get one without the badge?

just to play devil's advocate - one could stick a little M badge over the Zun sport badge :D

It's a bit like the colour Phoenix Yellow - I like it on other people's cars but I would;t be brave enough to buy a car that colour.
