sorry....... another question

Post by Mugs »

hi guys, i have yet another question.....

due to changing my interior i have had the steering off to replace the dash and at present i only have the drivers seat fitted. i now have the airbag light illuminated.
is this due the passenger seat being out or due to the steering wheel airbag having been disconnected and then re-fitted?
(i had the battery disconnected whilst the steering wheel airbag was off)

.... good lad, but did you have it disconnected all the time, and also while the seats were out ??? If you remove the seats, and connect the battery before replacing both seats, it will throw up a fault light, and you'll need to re-set with the oppropriate tools....

ah.....well, that's where i went wrong.
i connected the battery with the passenger seat out. there are no airbags in the seats are there?
i have an airbag reset tool, does it plug into the same port as the service light reset tool?

The seats register in the same circuits as the airbags. They are related for some reason...might have something to do with the auto tensioning systems in the seatbelts which respond to airbag deployment etc etc.... I don't have the reset tools, so I couldn't tell you which tool to stick in which place...but I do believe you can find that info in the Z3 knowledgebase... :D

i have found out that my reset tool doesn't reset the airbag on an E36, just E46 onwards  (however it does reset the service lights :D )
anyway, i called the local BMW specialist and they said they will reset it for a tenner so happy days.
thanks for the info.
