Newbie Z3 owner

Post by eavesy »

Hi All,
I have just got round to purchasing a black with red interior 2001 Z3 with 47k on the clock and look forward to picking up info from you guys. Looking at previous posts I think I have a lot of knowledge to call on and hope to be able to have input in the future. I will post picture as soon as I can. Steve.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

That's a low mileage Z3 you have bought, is it in good condition?
Pictures will be great. Not that l have managed to post any of my Z3 ( purchased in May) yet!

Hi, sounds a nice mileage example, is it a standard car? Where abouts in lancs are you from, my brother lives near Clithroe. Enjoy your Zed, may see you at some meets. :)

Cheers
Dave

Hi, condition seems fair I think, few dings on the passenger door and paintwork bit iffy in places but all in all seems to drive well just had a weekend in windermere on the boat and it was a great drive through Lythe valley. It seems to be a standard car with no mods, I will post pictures ASAP. Steve.

Hi All,

just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to purchase the Z3 boot badge as it looks like the previous owner has had it de-badged or maybe did not re-fit after a repair??

Just think that it looks (IMO)unbalanced when viewed from the rear, may be a bit of OCD kicking in.

Hi Steve, eBay probably your starting point unless you go the genuine route . On here Spurs Fan in a Coupe (Andy) may well have a good used one at a fair price,I've had several bits from him as he is constantly breaking Z's and he is a top bloke.

Alternatively if you want to modify your car, you can get carbon fibre ones off eBay and the like. I changed my wheel centre caps for carbon ones this year and they look great so I'm next changing all the exterior badges for carbon ones

Cheers, Tony.

Welcome to you, Steve from Mike in Walton on Thames. Andy (Spurs Fan in a Coupe) will probably have what you are looking for. We are neighbours in Z distance, him being in Woking.
Hi Tony. My hub badges are looking their age and I saw you comment re carbon fibre ones. How are they different apart from the obvious corroding etc?
Best wishes
Mike :)

Thanks t-tony and metalmicky - andy (spurs fan) sorted me out in super quick time, will now have to find a suitable adhesive to attach them.

Very nice looking car plus a hardtop! :) Is that a later Z3 steering wheel or has one from a Z4 been fitted?

Hi Del,
This is our first Z3 (Wife Had a Corsa and wanted a change) so don't know much about them at the moment but I'm learning a lot from you guys.

Pretty sure it's a Z4 wheel, like the interior trim. Looks a nice example of a great car, it'll put a smile on the wife's face after a corsa! Enjoy! :drive :drive

its not the z4 wheel, that type was fitted to some Z3's.

this is the z4 wheel:

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

wasn't meaning it to sound harsh, hence the smiley.. :) besides I don't think the Z4 wheel looks nice tbh
the other one is far better, and it's a lovely car, and combination of colours.

Just to be awkward   I actually prefer the z4 wheel and I have one in my garage - trouble is it needs an airbag and the replacement airbags for these are like the rocking horse ****.

As for the car in the thread, I like it a lot - looks either well looked after or well restored

Thanks for the comments, I hope its a well looked after car rather than a well restored car, there are a few bits and bobs that i think need attention such as
- the brakes seem a bit juddery
- keep finding water on the drivers seat?
- few supermarket dings on passenger door
but she drives really well and we are getting loads of top down driving in the Lake district at weekends, must say the Lythe Valley road is perfect for this little roadster.

The wheel is the Sports steering wheel rather than the M Sport Wheel which was a factory option. Shown below in a 2001 Z3 sales brochure,
