Number plate transfer

Post by Alan W »

I was considering buying a personalised plate from the DVLA and I spoke to my insurance company who were fine and would just charge a standard £20 admin fee and update the policy and certificate. What I was wondering was what happens when I take the car in for its next MOT as the old certificate will bear the old registration?

When you put the new reg on you will send all the documentation off, certificate of entitlement, v5 and mot and you will receive a new mot with your new personalised reg.

You don't actually get an MOT certificate any more, so it's moot. The MOT records are all online - if you get given a bit of paper by the testing station, that's just a 'receipt' for your records rather than the actual MOT certificate.

Just put my wife's personal registration on retention (£105 for one year) sent in last MOT, log book & the retention form (V778). Very quick turn around, got new MOT & new log book back this morning. Only taken a week which is better than I expected. Changed the plates on the car back to the original registration this morning.
Another expense was Insurance company charged £26 to change registration number details!!!
