Insurance - result :-)
Insurance - result :-)
Had the usual renewal letter with a ridiculous quote for the coming year and an explanation that they could renew automatically using my stored bank details to save me any hassle - no thanks. Did a comparison and have purchased from Privilege for £150.54 which I think is a bargain especially as they`re throwing in legal cover for free this month. What was also interesting was that the voluntary excess was substantial but altering it to £0 made no difference to the premium. There`s a lot of competition out there and I expected to pay more as I leave my car on the High Street overnight and in a car park during the day when not using it. It`s a 2.8.

Lymington High Street? I'm very fond of Lymington.
Re: Insurance - result :-)
It's a lovely place especially now we have Weatherspoons, Subway and the 99p shop! They all caused stress to the old locals when they moved in. The quay is a nice place to sit and watch in summer.

Sounds an excellent premium, is it limited mileage? Any contact details for this company? (the one Joanna Lumley pushes?)

I put down 10000 miles which is about what I usally do. I just ran a search on go compare and it came out 2nd pricewise. Loyds bank were a pound cheaper but I don't do business with banks if I can help it.bentley-boy wrote:Sounds an excellent premium, is it limited mileage? Any contact details for this company? Saga don't seem to be competitive for anything in my experience. People assume that they do a special price for us oldies and that's just hype.pingu wrote:I'm eligible for SAGA now. I don't know if this is a good thing .
Re: Insurance - result :-)
SAGA has never been any good for me either. I use Churchill at the moment £156, but I do check every time renewal comes around.alec.m wrote:Saga don't seem to be competitive for anything in my experience. Worked on a refurb on the Curry Villa indian restaurant on the one way near the supermarket (can't remember the name) 25 years ago when I was living in Bournemouth!!
Re: Insurance - result :-)
Should have put, in Lymington!!!
Re: Insurance - result :-)
Supermarket has changed hands a couple of times since then. It`s now Waitrose. The Indian is now a Chinese - not a very good one.Rafolian wrote:Worked on a refurb on the Curry Villa indian restaurant on the one way near the supermarket (can't remember the name) 25 years ago when I was living in Bournemouth!!

Re: Insurance - result :-)
As I use my Z 3 1.9 as a second car, I asked aviva my current car insurer the cost for a multi car policy, it cost £100 per year and i also get no claims bonus for the z3, and if I had an accident in the z3 it wont affect the NCB for my main vehicle, I dont think you will get it any cheaper than that
Re: Insurance - result :-)
Is everybody talking fully comp insurance ?
And the multi car policy was that a £100 on top of just insuring your main car?

Re: Insurance - result :-)
Yep, mines fully comp with Churchill.
Re: Insurance - result :-)
As a 24 year old with 2 previous non fault accidents under my belt, I feel sad to know that I pay as much as you all collectively in this post. (£nearly 1k for a 2.8).

Re: Insurance - result :-)
swappy I can confirm the £100 is on top of the main car which is a Merc C180K and I pay £180 for that, so £280 for a Merc C class and BMW Z3 is good value.

Re: Insurance - result :-)
I've just insured with Privilege and saved a fair few quid over Hagerty who I've been with for 4 years. Loyalty clearly doesn't pay but in fairness they were the best option when I had no transferable bonus. Adrian Flux wouldn't even insure me! 57 at the time, one minor accident 15 years ago in company car (scooter hit me in the side).
Just one point re the opening post. Yes its true that removing voluntary excess makes no difference but that's because they include compulsory excess of something like £350.

I used Brentacre who are one of BMWCC recommended insurers and I would imagine you get a better deal if a BMWCC member. I went with them last year after using Saga (£248 which was going up to £265 on renewal) for a few years and it cost me £220 fully comp, with protected NC & 5k annual mileage. This year it came down!! Now £212 which includes their admin fee of £20 and VAT. Not bad. Oh yes and I mentioned strut brace and they said no problem.

Any other drivers on the car for this price please.
Re: Insurance - result :-)
I'll stick with Pace Ward. High performance specialists, track day cover, sprint cover all modifications, etc. Sometimes cheap is exactly that. Can end up fighting for your cover over an overlooked mod or uprated brake pads and the like. Specialist may be a little more but when push comes to shove I'm not talking to some clueless call center who don't even know what car your talking about. You don't use chain store service centers, why use chain store insurance.
Re: Insurance - result :-)
Staying with Admiral Multi car. Z3 2.8, Legal Protection, 2 yrs NCB (as its my second car), Call Assist, Full UK breakdown & homestart (National Plus cover), Full comp, Strut brace friendly, £275.85. They also allowed me to add my 19 year old son when we drove to France last year and Belgium this year as a named driver for the week. This is with 3 cars on same policy, otherwise it would have been £350.87. I'm sure you might find cheaper, but it really does depend on your circumstances, also tell them you have shopped around and the Retentions Dept. will almost certainly kick in. SOME MIGHT BE CHEAPER BUT DO TELL THEM IF YOU HAVE A STRUT BRACE......SOME WILL NOT INSURE YOU!!
