Judder ONLY when braking is usually a warped brake disc.

It could also be due to glazed brake pads, which can easily be cured by giving the brakes some serious work to do, with suitable intervals for cooling. This is often due to using a high speed pad material but driving slowly around town or cruising on a motorway with light braking.

....... or, remove the pads and give the faces a rub with some 200 grit paper on a flat surface to remove the glazing. It won't do any harm to use a block and some finer paper on the discs - both sides - 400 grit will be good. You just want to take off the "shine" a little...

I have also had this and it is probably as Mike says but it wouldn't hurt to check the disc run-out with a DTI. If that is OK clean the pads and discs.
There is an interesting post on Bimmerforums which I found.

You might want to start with a wheel balance. I've found shed weights have caused similar symptoms in the past.

I had similar symptoms and the problem was knackered wishbone bushes. Complete cure with a new set of bushes.
