Alloy wheel fitment
Will 5x120 7.5j et15 fit my 2001 z3 2.2i ?
Re: Alloy wheel fitment
try putting the sizes into this, I think you will find they will stick out 25 to 30mm more than those as standard.

Re: Alloy wheel fitment
There are endless possibilities when it comes to wheel width and offset values.Robz3sport wrote:What et would fit?
Your standard wheels would have been et 41 out of the factory, The fronts should be 17" 7.5j et 41 and the rears are 17" 8.5j et41.
If you use the link above you get to put the old values against the proposed new value and it will help identify any fitment issues. Using the same wheel widths as above from memory you could use a 7.5j et36 up front (same as using a 5mm spacer) and you could use a 8.5j et29 at the rear (same as using a 12mm spacer, you could even push this to a et 26 but the wheel would be flush to the arch at that point).

Re: Alloy wheel fitment
Many thanks Brian4 and Brianh, it is a bit confusing.....
Re: Alloy wheel fitment
Hi Rob
Just to make things a bit easier most BMW wheels from 3 series will fit on the Z3 most 5 series wheels will have too small an offset (ET) to fit to fit and will stick out too far also the E39 wheels (5 series) have a slightly bigger centre bore.
The Z3M rear wheels have a very small offset and won't fit easily.
Here is a link to all the BMW wheels so you can browse and see if any take your fancy.

Re: Alloy wheel fitment
Thanks again brian4, those wheels look great on yours, what size are they?
Re: Alloy wheel fitment
17" AC Schnizter type II They are 7.5 width and et 35. My opinion but 17 are fine on the z3 if you go much bigger diam the tyre profile has to be reduced and gives a harder ride. 19's are too big as the disc then looks too small for the wheel especially at the rear.

Re: Alloy wheel fitment
There are 19's on mine, they were on it when I bought it, they look great but the ride is a bit harsh, that's why I'm after 17's, those look really well on yours.
Re: Alloy wheel fitment
Just seen this, - timely - I've been offered a set of 7.5J x 17" Round Spoke Style wheels which I'd like to use to replace the aging standard Five Star 7J x 16" wheels on my 2001 Z3 2.2i Roadster. However all the literature suggests I need wider 8.5J wheels on the rear. This was the optional upgrade offered when the car was new. Would 7.5J all round be a problem?
Re: Alloy wheel fitment
All depends on the offset of the wheels, the offset determines where the wheel sits in relation to the hub. We really need to know that figure to properly comment.Kiboko wrote:Just seen this, - timely - I've been offered a set of 7.5J x 17" Round Spoke Style wheels which I'd like to use to replace the aging standard Five Star 7J x 16" wheels on my 2001 Z3 2.2i Roadster. Re: Alloy wheel fitment
I have actually resolved this issue. Offset is something to be considered when obtaining replacement wheels, but it's not the issue here. The issue was whether or not 17.5J x 17" wheels, intended for Z3 (so offset measurement, 41, not an issue), - could be placed all round, rather than using wider 8.5J x 17" wheels at the rear, as described in the Z3 brochures as an optional upgrade when vehicle was new. I contacted BMW and was advised, - that the Z3 is to designed to be used with the wider wheels at the rear. To place the narrower 7.5J wheels all round would compromise both the handling and aesthetics of the car, and possibly place strain on related components. BMW have not tested such a combination, nor do they recommend it, nor would they approve of such a combination. Exactly the same wheels (17.5J x 17", offset 41), were offered with E36 Touring models, but in that case the wheels could be used all round front & rear. NOT with the Z3. Needless to say, I haven't purchased the wheels I was offered!
Re: Alloy wheel fitment
There'd be nothing wrong with fitting 7.5j all round, it's actually better for handling to have non staggered wheels. The down side would be the rear wouldn't sit well to the arch. So you'd need spacers but I think all bmw cars need spacers anyway.
Robz3sport, what 19's are on your car? I'm after some if you want rid?

Just a question why is non staggered better for handling??
Re: Alloy wheel fitment
Staggered wheels promote under steer, to do with more grip at the rear than the front

Re: Alloy wheel fitment
I run a square set up 7.5j x18 et 35, its about as low as you can go offset wise in the front of a zed with 7.5j rims much wider or lower offset they stick out too much.
I have them on a 2.8 and they are spaced 20mm to the rear so techincally et15 but again the fits good.....
I have to say the ride 17's to 18's is negelagable as far as ride comfort , in fact id say there is no difference to me. I had a staggered set up before but the tyres where 225 allround..

Re: Alloy wheel fitment
I've been looking at a set of alloys from a z4, with an offset of 29, the guy selling them will let me try them on, hopefully they'll fit.

Re: Alloy wheel fitment
I've found a set of alloys, they are front, 8j et34........rear 8.5j et 37, they're too far away to try on, will they fit....?
Re: Alloy wheel fitment
With a little mental math; I'd say they would fit. Fill the arches quite nicely too. Kinda depends what size tyres you're going use
