If the airbag is missing I'd expect the airbag light to be illuminated. Are you sure your car is supposed to have them (and hasn't just been retrofitted with a door car from a car with side airbags)?

don't know I got it last year as a cat c, it had been hit just above off side bumper , there is a bit of cable with the end covered by grey foam near the top hinge hanging loose that looks like it was plugged into some thing

If you look on the inside of the door card, you should see the mesh panel where an airbag would be fitted. That's the panel which would blow out in the event of an accident. If they are the original door cards, and it doesn't have the panel, it may not have been originally fitted. If you have seen the connector on the steering and passenger airbags, you will know the type of connection fitting required. Perhaps someone who does have a side impact airbag will provide a photograph of the set up to help you ...

Probably a speaker cable, unless it's yellow.

it's a black plug with 1 yellow wire and 1 yellow/red stripe , there is only 1 speaker fitted on the drivers door but it looks like there is another piece of mesh over a simular size hole could that be for another speaker?

There is space for two small speakers in the door, but I think only a very few cars have both. Most of us have just one.

I believe only cars fitted with the factory H.K system has all the speakers but as with most bmw models the loom is standard so it may not be missing its more likely not fitted.

Hi Peter, The door airbag connectors are yellow plugs and have white with blue stipe and White with yellow stripe.
The door speakers High range have black plug and yellow/red stripe and yellow/brown stripe. There should be 2 small speakers in the door card top just above the grab handle and behind the mesh.

As mentioned, most cars only have one, unless they have the top of the range stereo fitted, but the wiring is there for both.

Apologies didn't make myself clear I meant 2 speakers one in each door.
