Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
Hi all
I've just installed the larger port inlet manifold from the 330ci onto my bmw z3 2.8 m52tu, I'm looking for a mapping company near London who will accommodate for the new manifold on the remap.
Thanks

Hi Ben.. l appreciate youve got to get it re-mapped but is there any immedate difference from just fitting the manifold?

Re: Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
To be honest, I don't drive the car enough to notice a difference, but it's the equivalent of the m50 manifold swap on the older 2.8. The M54b30 manifold that I fitted has much larger ports than the standard m52u.

Anywhere around London, or even the surrounding areas. I don't mind driving for a good remap.Gazza wrote:North, South, East or West ?ben5010 wrote:Hi all

Re: Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
Not worth it if you use car as DD and not for track days. Probably just shifting torque from low rpms to 5000+ rpms.ben5010 wrote:To be honest, I don't drive the car enough to notice a difference, but it's the equivalent of the m50 manifold swap on the older 2.8. I have recently done my M52TU car and notice a big difference from 4500rpm onwards, It has a real surge.
Below that I have not really noticed much loss of power.
It is great for overtaking, I just leave them standing.
Not remapped as yet

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
Re: Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
The bigger manifold allows alot more air compared to the standard, it isn't just a case shifting the torque from lower down. Obviously they require a remap to fully utilise the greater airflow.

Re: Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
Getting a remap tomorrow, also took the car out for a good drive, there is a noticeable kick at around 4.5k compared to the stock manifold setup. Can't wait for the remap to compliment the new manifold. I will try and get a dyno printout up too.

Re: Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
I did the intake manifold swap on my 1997 / 2.8 and then had a re-map. The company that did it for me asked me about my driving style - ie. did I habitually race from traffic light to traffic light, or was my style more "cruising" etc etc... they then do the re-map to best offer the power where I would likely most require it. Obviously, the intake change is taken into account as an overall condition when doing the re-map. And there was a noticeable general improvement in power, although I can't say it was neck wrenching.
This is a good video to look at though..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03nL8Z0dRkI

Re: Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
I would have guessed that this manifold swop (when combined with a proper remap) would make a significant difference. I had a “stage one” remap done on my humble 1.9 (140 bhp) by a reputable and recommended tuning firm and they took it to 152 bhp after several hours work on and off a rolling road. Another 1.9 forum member had a similar result elsewhere in the UK. A 10% increase is noticeable but obviously it doesn’t change the car into a completely different one.
The firm I used wouldn’t do a remap on a car which was badly maintained with broken engine components and/or badly botched DIY turbo kits etc. My impression is that this generation of BMW (non M) engines were deliberately “under tuned” to cope a certain level of servicing abuse and varying petrol quality around the World.

I didn't end up getting the remap, I will post up the results when It gets booked in again.lightning wrote:Clearly not!
Re: Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
Hiya mate. Can I just ask you about the inlet manifold conversion. Do you have a 2.8 twin vanos? I have a 1999 twin vanos and have been looking for a conversion for mine.
Re: Z3 2.8 remap after big port inlet manifold
Yes this tread is about the 2.8 twin VANOS engine otherwise called the M52TUB28 engine. They are fitting the inlet manifold from a 330i or similar car that is fitted with the twin VANOS 3.0L engine (M54B30).
