Starter motor threaded lug mounts vs non threaded

Post by kjb1 »

Hi all. Have an issue that needs resolving. My current starter motor in my 97' Z3 1.9 has a non threaded mounting lugs, whereby the bolts hold in place via a nut and a washer. This style starter has thinner lugs.

The starter I have acquired is the newer threaded mounting lugs style which are much thicker lugs by comparison.

My question is, will I be able to use my current bolts to fit the new style starter? or will I have to order a different style bolts with more thread?

Anyone else share info on this, would be much appreciated

The bolts are M10 's one at top and one at bottom. I don't quite get what you need to know in that regard though. If the new motor has threaded lugs vs the old one which had bolts with nuts, then simply measure the thickness of the bracket on the motor and the thickness of the starter lugs...that'll then give you a minimum bolt length required. realOEM shows you need M10 X 65mm and two off. Hope this helps..

for anyone interested, called dealers today, part number southern boy given me is matching the part number of bolts that are currently in the car with the non threaded starter motor, therefore I am guessing they will be suitable for the threaded starter also.

I guess the threaded lugs simply replace the nuts and washers then...
