Front upper strut mounts?

Post by kkkrisss »

I am thinking of replacing the front upper strut mounts. I can see that the new ones have an arrow and a dot in the rubber where the bolts are and I am wondering if these have to point in a specific direction? I could not find any info online about this?

I have already checked the bentley manual and found nothing on the topic...

Then why put an arrow and a dot in the rubber?
Could someone with original upper strut mounts check the direction of these markers? just want to make sure I install them correctly.

I have found an article online which says the arrow must point forward.
Will try to verify it.

The ///M top mounts need to be put in a certain direction as the have built in caster, normal top mounts can go in anyway as the hole for the shock is central on the unit.

As Brian says, the M ones are offset and the arrow has to point to the front of the car to get them correctly positioned. I suspect the arrow is stuck on the standard ones through some sort of common production process. If you are concerned, just get them pointing frontwards.

I just fitted new Meyle front strut mounts yesterday.
The arrow points to the small allen bolt locator that is discarded on the Z3 but used on the Z4.
I kept it pointing to the rear or where the locator bolt would go but as it is not utilised on the Z3 I really don't think it matters as the mount is circular with a central bearing - however, I stand to be corrected.

Thanks guys.
I will keep the arrow pointing to the rear just to be on the safe side although it probably does not matter.
