Clutch gone to !heaven
Clutch gone to !heaven
Well after being totally fine for exactly 200,000 miles my 2.8 clutch has given up the ghost. It started making noises a few days ago and having got it home last night, it would not allow any gears to be selected as stuck in neutral. Engine runs fine but some nasty noises from the gearbox area. I guess 200K miles is pretty good for a clutch. My last 5 series did about the same. Got my local indi to pop over tomorrow to have a look and help me get the parts to replace it. Anyone have suggestions as to good makes of clutches to use. I dont need it for racing etc. so want a good mid range clutch.

As the previous one managed 200k I would be replacing it with the same make!
2001 Z3 2.2 Topaz Blue (Trudy) - Keeper rebuilt from a write-off
2002 Z3 2.2 Titan Silver (Cookies) - Keeper rebuilt having been bought with a seized engine
2002 Z3 3.0 Sapphire Black (Peanut) - Keeper awaiting rebuilding having been bought as an abandoned project
Plus Willy, Kodak & Maycee - All 2.2 Sport projects. Yes, 6 is a lot of Z3s
Always happy to try and help with spares

I used LUK when my 2.8 clutch went a few years back - see this eBay listing.... You could likely get it from your local auto spares outlets though...

I would guess that the original stuff was a premium manufacturer like LUK or SACHS
