Flywheel Worry

Post by Lancsbob »

Am on holiday atm & doing a lot of single track roads so using low gears and changing regularly. Have noticed from 1st to 2nd & 2nd to 3rd there seems to be a lot of transmission noise like taking up backlash when i press in clutch also pretty bad using reverse, the noise only happens when i press the clutch for a second or so everything else is normal with no vibration. As i say its like taking up backlash of some sort. Am worried it may be the DMF, any thoughts anyone? Bob

Hi

I had a backlash sound problem when letting the clutch off. Turned out to be a couple of loose flexi drive (Giubo) nuts. Went away after re-torquing them with a bit of locktite blue on the treads.

Hope this helps

Regards

Get the car in the air if possible. Stop one wheel from rotating by chocking it somehow. Put it in gear with the engine off and rock the other wheel and see what moves.

It does sound like the flexible coupling, but it could be any of the joints in the transmission.
