Door Removal

Post by g8jka »

Anyone know the easiest way to remove the doors? Does all the wiring need to be disconnected inside the door itself or can you disconnect it from under the footwell somewhere? It would be easier to access connections inside the footwell I presume and feed them through rather then get it all from out of the door itself but I could do with some guidance before I start stripping everything.

Many thanks

I'm doing this from memory as not near a car and it's been a while since I did it. But no need to touch door internal wiring. There's a single connector in the hinge area. I think it's behind the rubber boot which has 2 nuts holding it down and has to be accessed from the other side of the door.

Getting the door off is actually pretty easy. You'll just have to give the central pin a decent knock when you drift it out.

Always happy to try and help with spares :)

Thanks, I think I've seen the 2 nuts/bolts your on about but wasn't sure how to get at them as only had a quick look. The rest off the removal looks pretty straight forward although I need to swap the locks over on the drivers door.

If you don't have an assistant, I'd recommend having a hydraulic jack with a pad of cloth on top to support the door from below to prevent it falling when the hinges are removed. If you use some water based paint to mark the hinge positions for re-fitting, that will simplify matters too.
