Z3 Instrument Cluster Variants?

Post by calbens »

Just trying to find a 2nd hand instrument cluster for my zeddy and I can't believe how many different part numbers there are for them. I thought all Z3's would have the same binnacle. My part number is 62-11-6-901-502 and I thought I'd managed to find the same one on ebay but when I double checked their number it ended 520 :head:
I'm at a loss, I can't even find the same part number as mine looking up new ones, I'm so confused! :shake:

Bex,

Your part number seems to be the uncoded version of 62 11 6 901 501. This has been superseded by 62 11 6 901 519, so the 520 part seems to be just an updated version.

I did a cross mode lookup and the same part is used on the following.

Z3 E36, Z3 1.9, Roadster, M43, EUR, (CM11) : Instrument cluster
Z3 E36, Z3 1.9, Roadster, M43, EUR, (CM12) : Instrument cluster
Z3 E36, Z3 2.0, Roadster, M52, EUR, (CL31) : Instrument cluster
Z3 E36, Z3 2.0, Roadster, M52, EUR, (CL32) : Instrument cluster
Z3 E36, Z3 2.2i, Roadster, M54, EUR, (CN11) : Instrument cluster
Z3 E36, Z3 2.2i, Roadster, M54, EUR, (CN12) : Instrument cluster
Z3 E36, Z3 3.0i, Roadster, M54, EUR, (CN51) : Instrument cluster
Z3 E36, Z3 3.0i, Roadster, M54, EUR, (CN52) : Instrument cluster

This would indicate you can source one from any facelift model. Then it would need coding and of course the mileage would be wrong.

It could just be a dry solder joint causing your intermittent issue. It would be worth getting it out and having a re-flowing some of the joints first.

Thanks Si,

It's actually with these guys http://bndynamix.com/ at the moment and they said it's the cluster that's faulty and suggested we get a second hand replacement which is easier said than done or so it seems.

Do you think I would be better off sending it off to someone like these http://www.autotronics.co.uk/ who can repair them for £192 or so it says on ebay.

I suspect you will avoid a lot of agro by just getting it repaired. As long as those guys are not cowboys.

It's what I'd do. If only because of the agro getting the mileage corrected.

Plus Willy, Kodak & Maycee - All 2.2 Sport projects. Yes, 6 is a lot of Z3s :)
Always happy to try and help with spares :)

Any replacement cluster will require coding and then the mileage will still be wrong. If the cost all up is in the same ball park then I would get your existing one repaired.
