Re: top speed
wow - that's impressive. I had a 149 in the 330 (measured by GPS) and that's got 35% more power.
I wonder how long it would take to get to 139 in a 2.2. The good news is that the car is good for at least 155, so you'll run out of puff before you run out of handling - unlike some of the cars that I tried to v-max in the 80s . I can assure you that I'd rather do 150 in a Z3 than 110 in a Metro .

Re: top speed
I once tested a Nissan 350Z when they came out.....I reached 153mph indicated on a suitable course and at that speed the front end became so light I nearly sh*t myself.......wouldn't fancy it in a Z3.
Re: top speed
139 is the figure in the BMW owners handbook.
Re: top speed
I recently took the wife's 2.2 up to 130mph with the roof down, struggled to get any more out.
Re: top speed
Used to do the Mlr 30-130 at RAF Marham with my evo 5. My best was 14.5 seconds and a top speed of 165. The same year a porsche gt 2 and an m3 csl were in attendance.. The gt2 was 13.5 and 183 the m3 was over 20 seconds and 144.

They're not 2.2sstevov wrote:Used to do the Mlr 30-130 at RAF Marham with my evo 5. My best was 14.5 seconds and a top speed of 165. The same year a porsche gt 2 and an m3 csl were in attendance.. The gt2 was 13.5 and 183 the m3 was over 20 seconds and 144.
Roof-up will obviously give you the best top-speed, I think with the power the 2.2 has (170bhp) it should do its official 140mph top speed. Takes a lot of extra power to get that extra 10mph to 150mph for the 3.0. My M Coupe is gear-limited as I have a 3.45 diff, so it maxes at 155 (by coincidence - I don't think they have a limiter though as I it has run past it before I changed the diff).
Re: top speed
Your right.sadly my evo was only 2.0 litres and 4 cylinders.440 hp though

The Z3 also gets very light, scary I can tell you
My indicated speed was 150 and I wouldn't want to do that again in a Z3.

Re: top speed
My Coupe is rock solid at top speed, a friend commented on it whilst we were on our way back from a Z3 Coupe meet near the Nurburgring in October; I ran it up a few times on the Autobahn and it felt fine at top speed. The Coupe may be more stable than the Roadster though, and I do have ACS front flippers which are pretty big and must add some downforce to the front end.
Re: top speed
My Defender 110 usually manages 85mph where legal but l saw 90 on a flat stretch of Autobahn while crossing Germany last year.
At those high speeds it was stable enough, although the door seals failed at the top above 80mph, allowing wind to come in.
