Can anyone confirms this works without causing issues?
I had a full service recently from an independent garage but they said they never had the right tools to reset the service gauge.

Yes the wire trick works without issues or you can buy a service light reset tool to plug in and do the same for little money on ebay

If you buy one with the 16pin OBD2 plug you will need a 16pin to BMW round pin cable to use with it. Always use the round pacman socket under the bonnet to do this.

Can confirm it works. I do it every year, after the oil change.

I cannot believe there is a garage in the land (or world for that matter!) that cannot reset a service indicator on an E36 generation BMW.
They are not rocket science these days and you can buy DIY reset tools for a couple of quid all over the place!
