M54 intake swap gone wrong.
M54 intake swap gone wrong.
Hi guys, was really hoping for this post to be a success story and a list of the great changes I've managed with the car.
So, I've taken the old 2.0 m52 intake out and replaced with the m54 2.5 intake. Connected everything up and got in and fired her up.
I f*cked up.
She will idle, just, but the second I think of touching the accelerator it feels like the fuel is suddenly cut.
I suspect I've either missed a sensor cable (although I'm sure there's only the MAF unaccounted for). Does anybody have a wiring diagram or picture for the assembly under the throttle?
Many thanks in advance.

Re: M54 intake swap gone wrong.
Sorry to hear your having trouble, sounds like something isn't conected? You need to get back in there and check all your conections, do you remember reconnecting the round plug to the thottle body? If everything is conected correctly then you may have a severe air leak somewhere? Throttle adaptor, thottle body, intake hoses etc just go back over it will be something simple.

A vac hose perished and my fiddling breaking it off perhaps?

Re: M54 intake swap gone wrong.
Could be? There's three vac hose conections at the back of the manifold (bulkhead end) 2 small ones and a large one which should have a rubber cap on it? this perishes, the one on my manifold and the 2.5 one I got were perished. Both the small ones should have caps on the M54 manifold but have pipes fitted to them on from the M52.

Yes, distinctly remember removing the cap and fitting the pipe. Was in pretty had shape. Might have to be the first stop

Turns out a vac hose going to a vacuum item (direct translation from German and no English on it) had pulled loose.

Yes, thanks for pointing me that direction Steve.
Wow, what a difference, it seriously pulls now, and sounds a lot smoother.

Re: M54 intake swap gone wrong.
have you got comparison pics between the 2 manifolds?
I'm interested in the size of the inlet on the head, and the manifold shapes

Re: M54 intake swap gone wrong.
It's great isn't it? Really frees up the engine to rev better.

Check out this, shows the difference in port size/shape but the main part of the manifold and the DISA valve are 10mm larger.

I have a few pics that I'll push up to Imgur tonight. The new intake is significantly bigger, my conical filter is up against ther the wheel arch now, before there was more spacesebring wrote:have you got comparison pics between the 2 manifolds?
