Brake fluid change light on - to change or not to change?

Post by Robert T »

The little clock symbol on the service indicator has just come on, indicating that the car would like its brake fluid changed. My question is, is it worth taking the car in just for a brake fluid change when I'm already down to 2 green lights and it will be going in for an oil service before very long?

If I were you AND if the car is used enough for the lights to go out soonish, I would wait and get them done together. I can't imagine that the brake fluid is critical as soon as the light comes on.
Otherwise (ie. if the service will be a few months) I would just get it done now.

Only reason I ask is because I normally take it to a dealer 90 miles away that I know very well. I'd rather they did any servicing. I just don't want to have to make two trips if I can avoid it. I use a local BMW approved place for anything easy like MOTs. I'll probably get them both done together - thanks.
