Im chuffed to bits with my M roadster

Post by doclip »

Hi there Guys
Well i pciked up my Pheonix yellow M S54 roadster today -and im having great trouble even concentrating at work -feel like a wee boy on Xmas day -just bubbling voer with excitement .
Its just everything i was hoping for and then some -Autoecosse have spent > £1300 getting this car bang on in every regard
Cant wait to start to get to know the car and im well aware its not like my 7 and will have to be treated with uber respect on the twisty stuff
Seems well enough planted now that the steering geo has been done properly and so im going to holf off re the strut braces until later on in the summer -my BMW indie has reiterated that he wouldnt recommend altering the std set up unless im going o0n track -which im def not .
As it happens i wont be doing much driving as off to US tomorrow on business and then off to londonshire the week after and korea week after that -and just look at that weather -unbelievable -just when im away -AAAAARG
So thanks for the all the helpful comments and support
Enjoy the good weather
Regards ,Brian :D :D :D

Brilliant Brian, :D

I still get excited every time I get in my M, even 6 months after buying it.

What a fantastic car and being able to put the roof down in this weather is just the icing on the cake!

I know you will enjoy it :) 8-)

Sounds great, Brian. Congrats on the purchase.

I was looking hungrily at that one myself, so it will be interesting to hear how you get on with it.

I know just what you mean about the weather. I'm currently sat in an office in Denmark, and it has been warm and sunny without a cloud in the sky for the last 4 days. Buggar. :head:

Cheers R.

Yay, you did it Brian and she looks just gorgeous! :D

So glad your other half likes it too

The beauty of the S54 is that is doesn't bite unless it is pushed. You can have a lovely leisurely cruise, or for more action, spank the ass off it.

Fabulous! 8-)

They are the std wheels for S54 -ie shadow chrome if thats std spec -may be trick of the light -but there is no curb rash -and not a mark anywhere on the car inside or out -really tidy car for the mileage 46K IMHO -but more importantly the engine is just so sweet and tractable -i mean you sit in 5th and it still pulls like a train with so much useable torque which makes it such a relaxed car to drive -i was quite happy to let most folk go past me -ok so i had swmbo on board and she doesnt like me going quick .
what sort of mpg would i expect -im guessing low 20s -does it need 95 ron or v power 98 or tesco 99 bio -or will it do any harm on 95
I have got a shed load of octane booster in my garage which i never used with the 7 [came with car] -would that harm the engine -eg if was going for a quick blat
Either way im justy going to take it real easy for the next few blats until i feel may way round the handling characteristics of the car -so it will demand my utmost respect for sure
Funny thing actually i told the folk on the lotus 7 site that i had sinned in selling my 7 and buying an M -and blow me another member confesses to owning a real nice blue coupe M Z3  So im not alone it seems
Have to say tonneua is a bit of a pain -does anyone really bother with this ?

Hi Lloyd,

I find with 97/98/99 ron I average 24mpg.

The best I have had on a long run is 27mpg with my cruise control on.

The tonneaus are an absolute pain in the ass ( I have two, one for my 2.2 and one for my M ). I have only put one on my 2.2 once
They do look nice though, if you get round to doing it.

Cheers P

one other wee qstn :
I'm shod all round on pilot sports -what's the best tyre pressure to run them on -do they assymetric pressures in back v front -im not bothered about longevity just handling and stickiness -im down to about 4-5mm all round -michelins usually last a long time in my experience
Reckon id go down Yoko Advan route when they wear out as i had these on my previous 7s and they are just superb [in the dry not the wet ] -if they make them is this profile .
Does the tyre sensor work well or not ?

Tyre pressures are on a label on the bodywork in the recess where the door fits into. Open the door and have a look around the latch area - you will see it. I think generally about 32psi front and rear is OK.

Don't put 95 RON in it - engine was not optimised for <97RON (although it will alter the map to cope with it). No point in strangling it with crappy fuel.

Enjoy.
