BMW Car Magazine December 2008 page 40 - Review of Boomer

Post by namatjira »

Just thought I'd like to brag a bit and tell you the the December 2008 issue of BMW Car Magazine has a review of my car Boomer.

The Journo was supposed to leave me out of it and concentrate on the car, but he ignored me so apologies for any personal references.

Some good photos though and the article's not bad.

Cheers

Thanks Spokey.

The day of the photo shoot was a bit nerve racking. The day before it was raining and that morning it has looked like it might again. But thankfully it held off till about 5 minutes before I got home from the shoot.

The journo and photographer were both great and it was fun driving it up and down different roads pretending not to notice the car on the wrong side of the road with a photographer handing out the window. :lol

Good fun really.

Cheers

Boomer does indeed ROCK!

Great photos. Such a gorgeous Zed. Beautiful in Alpine White III.

The article was good and enjoyable yes, but I thought it lacked covering aspects of the car other than the engine and suspension. Now obviously the engine is a big talking point with this car but I would have liked more detail on the Z3M itself. That's probably just the enthusiast in me that likes to read detailed articles on these cars.

Your car is a star and the personal references were fine! :P

Thanks ///M_aniac,

The article turned out nothing like I expected. As you, I thought more on the car and less on me. In fact I would have been quite happy as some anonymous owner. But as was pointed out to me the readership of this magazine are interested in stories behind cars and they felt in this case there was one.

I have had official confirmation from BMW Spartansburg that mine is the ONLY Individual Z3M Roadster in Alpine White that they ever made and in fact they only made 3 other White Z3M Roadsters but they were standard option orders and not Individuals. Cool huh?

Yes I agree that more detail on the car would have been good but the Editor told me they like to make a clear distinction between themselves and Performance BMW which is more car details based as a rule. That said they have expressed interest in doing possibly a cover feature if I get my next big stuff done but that's a long way off at the moment and partly dependant on economic conditions as to how long it takes.

I have 192 photos that the photographer kindly gave me full resolution copies of from the day of the photo shoot. Possibly the most fun was doing the burnout shots but because we didn't have any bleach on the tyres (a photo trick I am told) and that it was on a public road there is not much smoke. But the longest eleven was probably about 80 to 100 feet. Didn't want to overdo it as them Pirelli's ain't cheap but I am :lol

All the best, seasons greetings etc.

:D

Incredibly cool - ice cold! :D The other 3 made, were they for the UK or other world markets? I have a contact on my facebook group for the Z3 ///M Roadster who has a white one and he's in the U.S.

Can I ask, how did you contact BMW at Spartanburg SC, did you send a letter or e-mail? I would like to contact them about my own car and get some more information on it. Any details you could send me would be really welcomed. Do you have a contact name for instance?

Congrats on the magazine feature - always loved the Alpine White on the Zed cars. Your car certainly deserves the limelight and am very much looking forward to reading the article :)

I wonder what markets BMW was referring to?

There are quite a few Alpine M Roadsters in the US where it was a more popular colour (for example, there's around 10 or so on Bimmerforums including 3 owners that post regularly).

As for the RHD markets, I know of 2 in Hong Kong alone (one of which was raced very successfully). Possibly the numbers are for the UK - where white cars seem quite rare indeed. Anyway, regardless of the numbers, your car is certainly quite unique in its mix of colours and mods and good to see a rare car like that in a real enthusiasts hands.

Mine is the only Individual Alpine White Z3M Roadster made in any market. The other 3 Alpine White Z3MR's were RHD's. I was not given the LHD Alpine White MZ3's that were standard option orders but from my own sources I believe that no more than about 15 or so were in LHD.

I contacted BMW Spartansburg via their Customer Relations email address and some considerable time later got an email from someone else who I then was able to get specific with my questions. He then replied to me quite quickly once I had given him the last part of my VIN.

I will look up the details and PM you in the next week if that's okay.

The article was a bit of a cross over style but I'm not complaining

Cheers

Hi Kiwi,

Thanks for that. I think I might have answered your questions in my reply to ///M_aniac.

Love the car and get a buzz just from starting it up.

Cheers

Hiya and thanks,

It was Daniel Goodyer and Matt. Enjoyed the article about your car the month before. Do you agree it is a bit weird driving along with their car on the wrong side of the road and Matt hanging out the window with his gear? Loved his photos though and I think because he knows what he wants and how to achieve it the time passes quickly and with a lot of fun.

Cheers.

all mats pics were static ones - afraid that the GT2 is a complete garage queen. its sat inside an air chamber at the moment. Will probably have a drive in the summer though
